Summary

The Data Inventory Product Owner is accountable for leading the Data Inventory function within the Chief Data & Analytics office.  This will include the development and execution of Key’s Data Inventory strategy and approach for implementing sustainable processes and tools for Data Inventory Management across the enterprise.  Data Inventory function covers all forms of Data at KeyBank, including structured data, unstructured data and data shared with third parties.  Key’s Data Inventory is a strategic function that provides a foundation for Data Protection, Data/Record Retention and Data Governance initiatives.

A successful candidate for this role will utilizes technical experience, business acumen, delivery, and leadership skills to lead a team in designing, developing, implementing and maintaining Key’s Data Inventory meeting the technology and operational objectives of the Chief Data & Analytics office.  This role will require the development of partnerships with functional leaders to align capabilities and roadmaps.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation, maintenance and enhancement of scalable Data Inventory processes across the enterprise with clear roles and responsibilities for different participants across Key’s data ecosystem
  • Execute Data Inventory processes covering all forms of Data at KeyBank, including structured data, unstructured data and data shared with third parties
  • Ensure all sensitive, critical, and high-risk data assets are identified, cataloged, and monitored within the data inventory, aligning with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain reporting mechanisms to provide visibility into the state of the data inventory and in line with Enterprise Data & Analytics Governance standards, Data Risk Taxonomy and Information Security standards
  • Manage senior stakeholder relationships with upstream partners to ensure the completeness of inputs to Data Inventory are in good order and with downstream partners to confirm Data Inventory is meeting their needs
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (business and data engineering) to prioritize quarterly and annual roadmap aligned to business objectives.  Manage the backlog, prioritize features and enhancements, and ensure timely delivery of inventory-related initiatives.
  • Drive data quality resolution for inputs to Data Inventory and lead initiatives to improve required metadata
  • Drive continuous improvement of the data inventory processes and tools, staying informed of best practices and emerging technologies in data management.
  • Provide training and guidance to data asset owners and other stakeholders on the use and importance of the data inventory, promoting a culture of data literacy and accountability.
  • Be a catalyst for driving culture focused on awareness of Data Management practices & metadata strategies covering Data Inventory, Data Catalog, Data Quality and Data Lineage

Qualifications

  • 10 + years of experience, Banking or Finance industry preferred
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in managing enterprise data inventories or similar assets, including experience with Agile methodologies and backlog management
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, data governance, and regulatory requirements, particularly around sensitive and critical data.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data accuracy, completeness, and security.
  • Communicates effectively, develops and delivers multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences; able to drive consensus, and influence relationships at all levels
  • Collaborates effectively by building partnerships and working well with others to meet shared objectives
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills across a variety of stakeholders at different levels
  • Demonstrates ability to balance between seeing the “big picture” while paying close attention to detail
  • Organizational savvy: understands systems, management processes, knows where to go for information and how to interpret them.
  • Proficiency in data inventory tools and technologies, with a solid understanding of data cataloging and classification techniques (e.g., BigID, Alation, Collibra, OvalEdge, ERWIN, BigEye, etc.).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Finance, or related field. Master's degree preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $135,000 to $165,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
