Project description

Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) are needed to serve as Literacy Support Teacher Trainers with the Curriculum Development Unit (CDU) at the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, Eastern Caribbean. The recent volcanic eruption on Saint Vincent and the onset of COVID-19 have created a learning loss in students. In response, the MOE had to quickly embark on the Education Recovery Programme, which aims to improve teaching of literacy in schools, including the use of blended learning strategies. The support of a PCRV has been requested to support the program to build the capacity of teachers and school administrators, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy.

The PCRVs will be part of a team of Special Education officers developing a training plan to equip teachers and school administrators with the knowledge, skills and strategies needed to teach in a blended environment. The PCRVs will also collaborate in the development of a training plan and assist the CDU in designing professional development workshops for teachers to address the collection and analysis of student assessment data and progress records and their application in instruction. Ultimately, the goal of the project is for participating primary and lower secondary school students to perform at the appropriate grade level and struggling students to improve by at least two grade levels.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Eastern Caribbean together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
