Project description

The Secretariat of Education Atlántic and Secretariat of Education Barranquilla in Colombia have requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Socio-Emotional Development and Entrepreneurship Specialists. The Secretariats of Education for Atlántico and Barranquilla have identified the need to address mental health issues with students like suicide prevention, lack of motivation, emotional problems, poor communication, social isolation, etc.

The PCRV will support the Quality Education technical teams in both Secretariats to strengthen socioemotional and personal entrepreneurial competencies in secondary education and design and facilitate virtual, in-person, and hybrid training workshops on pedagogical strategies for schoolteachers to develop socio-emotional students’ competences between 15-17 years old corresponding to 9, 10 and 11 grades that can be implemented in all schools. The PCRVs will also co-create training materials on how to teach socioemotional and personal entrepreneurial competences in secondary education with stakeholders.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Colombia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or other fields related to mental health or youth development.
  • 3 years’ experience working on socio-emotional skills, curriculum design, youth development, personal entrepreneurial competencies, or related areas.
  • Experience in training trainers or teachers.
  • Skilled at designing digital content and/or materials.
  • Minimum B1 or advanced intermediate spoken and written Spanish
  • Comfortable using and learning technology including platforms.
  • Exceptional intercultural skills, flexibility, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.
