Job description

We are looking for new Trustees to help assist in running the committee of Bath Gateway Out & About, a small local charity that provides social and leisure activities to 60 or more adults who have learning disabilities.

You will be able to greatly help in the furtherance of the aims of our charity, which are to provide social and other activities for, improve the conditions of life of, and to enhance the independence of, its disabled members; and to promote awareness of learning disabilities to the general public.

What are we looking for?

We welcome people with all levels and areas of expertise but who preferably have had some previous experience of participating in company or charity meetings. Some of the attributes which we feel would be useful for our trustees to have in order to fulfill their roles to help move the organisation forward are Non judgemental Impartiality, objectivity, fairness and the ability to respect confidences Good interpersonal and communication skills Working as part of a team Committed to attend Trustees' meetings, including the A.G.M. Support the charity to reach its full potential Able to make suggestions and setting aims and objectives for the organisation Ability to produce and maintain policies incorporating an understanding of current legislation around safeguarding of vulnerable adults, equal opportunities and health and safety Strategic planning Monitoring progress Understanding of UK charity law as applied to smaller charities Ability to contribute suggestions for new fundraising opportunities Planning skills Some understanding of finance Useful Skills and Experience Experience of learning disabilities. Fundraising. Public relations. Campaigning. Computers and information technology.

What will you be doing?

We are currently seeking up to three new trustees to serve as members on our executive committee. Can you spare a few hours a month in helping us make a positive difference by enriching the lives of adults with learning difficulties and other disabilities ? If so, we would love to hear from you. As a trustee you will be responsible for helping to manage the charity and ensuring that Bath Gateway Out & About carries out its charitable purposes for the public benefit, complies with its governing document and the law, manages its resources responsibly, acts in the charity’s best interests, acts with reasonable care and skill and ensures that the charity is accountable. The executive committee meets every 6 to 8 weeks discussing the ongoing activities of the charity's three weekly Club nights, monitoring the charity finances and current balances, planning occasional day trips, holidays and other special events for our members, planning fundraising events, supporting the Development Officer and Club Leaders, to take whatever decisions are necessary for the ongoing benefit of the Club and its members. In addition to the regular committee meetings, Trustees will also participate in occasional attendance at special events, including the Charity's Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.).
