The Division

Denver Elections Division (DED) 

The Elections Division of the Office of the Clerk and Recorder provides comprehensive, nationally recognized election services for the City and County of Denver. These services include voter records management, voter services and outreach, petition management, elections administration and technology, and ballot operations. The mission of the DED is to conduct accurate, accessible, secure, transparent, and efficient elections.

What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $65,523 - $108,113. This is a time limited position with an end date of 1/31/2025 with the possibility of an extension. The review will take place in December. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

In this position you can expect to work hybrid: work from home on approved days in a non-election cycle, and in person at the Denver Elections Building located at 200 W 14th Ave Suite 100 Denver, CO 80204. Office hours are generally Monday - Friday 8am-5pm, this position does require flexible scheduling and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. 

What You’ll Do

Do you have a passion for serving others? If so, we want to hear from you! The City and County of Denver has an exciting opportunity for a Civic Engagement Associate to serve in the Office of the Clerk & Recorder, Paul D. López. 

We are looking for a person who is passionate about our mission and getting Denverites informed about the work of the Office of the Clerk & Recorder. 

 

The Civic Engagement Associate will be an external communications professional focusing on representing the Clerk and Recorder’s office (both the elections and recording offices) by engaging with key stakeholders in neighborhoods across the City & County of Denver. Key responsibilities include cultivating relationships and partnerships with registered neighborhood organizations, business improvement districts, non-profits, service providers, faith groups, schools, etc. to expand voter participation and resident education about the work of the Clerk & Recorder. 

 

Key roles and responsibilities of the Civic Engagement Specialist are: 

  • Represent the Office of the Denver Clerk and Recorder and participate in Registered Neighborhood Organizations (RNOs), Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and community/ public meetings as deemed necessary 

  • Build & cultivate relationships/partnerships with civic engagement organizations and community leaders including voter registration groups, faith, schools, businesses, HOAs, professional organizations, etc. 

  • Create and maintain neighborhood/stakeholder constituency lists 

  • Support community events by neighborhood by maintaining a community calendar and attending/supporting events as needed 

  • Troubleshoot neighborhood impacts and ensure two-way communication between residents and the Office 

  • Work with communication specialist to develop marketing, outreach, and engagement materials 

  • Create, facilitate, and provide presentations to community and partners 

  • Prepare agendas, programs, and other meeting materials 

  • Arrange meeting room setup, meals, and equipment for events 

  • Manage and assess multiple high-priority programs and priorities 

  • Actively look to expand the Office’s role in the community 

  • Manage, support, and mentor high school interns 

 

Assignments for this position are diverse in nature and require determining practical solutions in a fast-paced environment. This person will work independently, manage tight schedules, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work nights and weekends, and travel as necessary. 

 

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience: 

  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in non-profit or campaign work engaging diverse audiences via outreach tools 

  • Experience in community organizing, specifically knowledge and experience working within Denver’s neighborhoods and community groups 

  • A self-starter with the ability to work and execute assigned tasks independently 

  • An excellent communicator, with strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Bilingual in another language commonly used in Denver, preferably Spanish or Vietnamese 

  • Experience giving presentations/ publicly speaking to diverse audiences 

  • Committed to the priorities of the Office of the Clerk & Recorder 

  • Approach the work as a humble civil servant 

  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work closely with a team 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments while staying organized and adhering to deadlines 

  • Experience with external communications developing outreach plans with metrics 

  • Experience building coalitions with service providers and other government agencies 

  • Ability to work with diverse communities 

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of professional level experience performing communications, marketing, and/or public relations.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
