Your missions

The Individual Dental Strategy & Business Development Director will be responsible to maximize Cigna's performance by developing a comprehensive strategy for our individual dental portfolio across matrix partners that supports the development of a prioritized and actionable execution roadmap to maintain and grow the book of business.

The ideal candidate will have the skills and desire to manage a true product line P&L. We are looking for a strong general manager who has a keen business acumen of dental, can work in a very cross-functional role, and balance short term and long-term objectives to continue to grow the business. This role will blend strategy development with actual execution.

Candidates should have a strong familiarity with dental products, dental competition, navigating State regulations & regulators, experience leading teams, and experience partnering with other senior executives and matrix partners to drive results.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the Individual Dental P&L
  • Understand levers of profitability and how to prioritize profitability vs. investment decisions.
  • Working with Finance to develop forward looking P&L projections for both membership and earnings.
  • Translate growth objectives (members and profitability) into actionable product development, marketing, and distribution strategies. 
  • Lead the strategy development process for the Individual Dental portfolio by producing annual business priorities and objectives.
  • Manage the development of a multi-year segment-level strategic plan, including strategic prioritization that drives goal development and investment decisions. Work closely with business partners, including product owners and cross-functional leaders, like finance, marketing, and technology.
  • Work with senior leadership team to present business cases to secure funding for new or enhanced capabilities. 
  • Communicate progress and measure success through the development of monitoring and reporting processes.
  • Champion organizational alignment to measurable business and segment goals through collaboration with business leaders and owners of relevant management processes, investments, and execution.
  • Champion strategic change initiatives, unlocking affordability and growth improvements.
  • Manage joint-ventures, partnerships, and distribution strategies. 
  • Deeply understand the individual dental landscape, competitor positioning, and position Cigna's individual dental business to differentiate from competitors to attract new customers. 
  • Drive bold high-impact decisions to progress segment strategy and goal attainment, including the digital roadmap and portfolio.
  • Represent and communicate segment strategy with internal and external groups, including influence team and client communications.
  • Maximize key relationships to create synergies, alliances, and opportunities. Form a solid working relationship and network of subject matter experts across Cigna dental.
  • Drives resolution of staff and stakeholder issues, escalating when appropriate.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert within the organization for Individual Dental.

Qualifications:

  • Successful track record as a people manager and/or possesses clear aptitude as a leader.
  • Minimum of 7 years of industry specific experience in launching and managing performance of dental products. 
  • Prior experience managing a P&L. 
  • Broad Industry experience in areas such as pricing, underwriting, networks, customer and broker service, DTC marketing, training, product development, filing, compliance, competitive analysis, call centers, claims, etc., strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with ACA medical and ACA dental business preferred. 
  • Business strategy experience with strong understanding of the profit and loss drivers for dental. 
  • Strategic and creative thinker with ability to think outside the box and translate strategies into actions/requirements/implementation.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams within a heavily matrixed culture and drive results with strong sense of urgency, and in an environment of ambiguity.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and collaborative approach to work in highly matrixed and dynamic organization.
  • Effective leadership, prioritization, and management of complex deliverable portfolio.
  • Can convey complex information in an understandable way to various audiences.
  • Strong influencer and collaborator, working through others, and building relationships within the organization.
  • Ability to travel. 


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 156,300 - 260,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
