An excellent career opportunity exists with Underwriting Services, GCS Operations team as an Underwriting Technical  Assistant in our downtown Toronto location. In this position, you will play a meaningful role in supporting our GCS Underwriting teams that are driven every single day to think bigger, do better for our customers, and achieve desired results.

Your role is to learn and grow, to develop as a valued member of the Underwriting Services team and be working towards an underwriting career path.  In this role, you will support and aid our GCS National underwriting team with the processing of commercial policies and underwriting transactions and reports within assigned authority including new and renewal business and endorsements.  Proficiency and accuracy when assisting the team with processing of documents including providing administrative and clerical support for underwriters and other stakeholders is critical to the role.

This role is a hybrid role.  You will be required to work in the Toronto, First Canadian Place location two days a week and as needed, working remotely when not in office.

What you'll do

  • Supporting Underwriting in risk analysis of new business, specified complex renewal accounts and MGA’s as assigned keeping the writing of good risk and underwriting profitability in mind.

  • Build strong relationships with GCS MGA/Broker partners and internal Aviva stakeholders as first point of contact for operational support issues.

  • Process transactional instruction received from Underwriting including the management of book of business documentation relevant for UIR.

  • Manage billing communication, and internal/external Aviva stakeholder communication supporting the Underwriting/Broker relationship and Aviva.

  • Support Management for timely report on performance through operational KPI’s. Articulate challenges/ issues and suggest improvements to the overall process.

  • Support Management in execution and error resolution of automation tool applications including needed manual data manipulation.

  • Provide data for quality assurance and audit functions.

  • Provide input in support of analysis reporting and process tracking.

  • Additional tasks as required.

What you'll bring:

  • Post graduate degree including practical experience and an insurance back ground an asset.

  • Ideal candidate has minimum 2 years Commercial insurance experience in a progressive commercial property underwriting support role; bilingual skills considered an asset.

  • Actively pursuing CIP and/or CRM in good standing considered an asset. 

  • Above average MS Excel skills, strong attention to detail and accuracy while executing above average time management skills in an underwriting environment is a requirement for this role

  • Hands on RTM experience is an asset.

  • Financial literacy including proficiency in commercial insurance binder and statement of values interpretation commensurate with experience in a commercial insurance support role

  • You will need to be a confident problem solver, possess strong communication skills and be comfortable to manage a healthy level of autonomy while being accountable to various teams for the responsibilities of your role

  • Excellent technical aptitude with web and DOS based systems and databases is ideal; strong working knowledge of Microsoft office Suite is a must

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the capability to communicate at all levels (with internal and external partners) is meaningful to the role

  • Superior organization and time-management skills with the ability to adapt in a dynamic, priority-changing environment is critical for success in this role
