About The Role

We are seeking committed and culturally responsive educators to join our dynamic teams across 37 Remote Teaching Service schools in the Kimberley, Pilbara, Midwest and Goldfields education regions. This is a unique opportunity for early childhood, primary, and secondary trained teachers to deliver flexible and innovative educational programs to students in remote areas, ensuring they have access to high quality education and improved outcomes.

Schools in the Remote Teaching Service are located in some of the most isolated parts of our state. Some are in small towns, others in community settings. Schools vary in size from less than 10 students at Jungdranung Remote Community School in the Kimberley Education Region, to around 200 students enrolled at Halls Creek District High School, in the Kimberley Education Region, and the Ngaanyatjarra Lands Schools in the Goldfields. The majority of students enrolled in these schools are from local Aboriginal families.

Teachers who live and work in the remote teaching service tell us that it makes them better teachers, and better people. They are committed to Aboriginal Education, and living and working in remote locations.

Find out more about the Remote Teaching Service, including a video and links to each school, here .

If you are a current Department of Education teacher, consider applying for our Remote Connection Program, where you can spend a week in one of our remote schools, to see if it is right for you. Contact our Teach in WA team to find out more .

Additional Professional Benefits

Teaching in the Remote Teaching Service can offer you many professional, financial and personal benefits, that you won’t have access to in other regional or metropolitan schools. These include a salary allowance of between $15,370 and $20,870 per annum in addition to your salary, locality allowances, transportation to and from the location on appointment, and fully subsidised housing.

Appointments to the Remote Teaching Service are only made on a full time, fixed term basis for up to three years initially, though may lead to permanency with the Department of Education.

About You

We need our very best educators in the remote teaching service, working with remote communities to close the gap in life outcomes for our Aboriginal students, their families and communities. Students in Remote Teaching Service schools need motivated, creative and resilient teachers who possess a wide range of experience, skills and capabilities. Teachers who are lifelong learners. Teachers who are empathetic, open, and seek authentic interactions with others. Teachers like you.

We expect that all of our staff are culturally responsive, across all of our schools. You will be committed to ongoing self-reflection, expanding your knowledge and improving practices through working collaboratively with your colleagues and the community. Your approach will be flexible and adaptive, as you understand the nuances and implications for your teaching, as you get to know your students, their families and communities.

You demonstrate respect for and value Aboriginal culture and connection to Country, the histories and experiences of Aboriginal people, and see your students’ culture as a strength.

You understand that your community will have expectations of how teachers behave, represent themselves, and interact with families and communities.

We welcome applications from existing fixed term and permanent teachers, including prospective graduates and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers. Your area of qualification should be complemented by strong literacy and numeracy skills. An interest or experience in English as an additional language/dialect (EAL/D) will be highly valued.

Teachers who are not currently employed or not employed on a permanent basis should apply to the Remote Teaching Service (RTS) Pool through this advertisement. Note that permanent teachers who are successful in gaining a position will retain their substantive position at their existing school for the duration of their appointment in the Remote Teaching Service.
