Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Level 2 Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of bookkeeping fundamentals, excellent attention to detail, and hands-on experience with Xero, Dext, Syft and Brightpay. You will work closely with the Director to maintain accurate financial records, assist in managing payroll, and provide meaningful financial insights that support our clients’ business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-Day Bookkeeping: Manage and maintain clients' financial records, including bank reconciliations, posting purchase invoices, sales invoices, and journal entries in Xero.  You will also chase clients for missing information to provide timely and accurate
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee and process supplier and customer invoices, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Expense Management: Process expenses and receipts using Dext, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
  • Payroll Administration: Support payroll processing using Brightpay, including preparing payroll summaries, and calculating wages, deductions, and pension contributions as well as filing with HMRC.
  • VAT Returns: Prepare accurate VAT returns for review in line with HMRC requirements.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in producing management accounts, cash flow reports, and financial analysis for clients.
  • Client Support: Maintain strong client relationships, responding to queries, and offering guidance on bookkeeping and payroll issues.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all records comply with relevant legal regulations and standards, particularly in relation to Making Tax Digital (MTD).

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a digital or cloud-based accountancy practice.
  • Software Proficiency: Solid experience with Xero, Dext, is essential, experience with Syft and Brightpay is preferable.
  • Education/Qualifications: Relevant qualification is preferred, but not essential.
  • Understanding of UK Taxation: A good understanding of VAT, PAYE, and UK payroll legislation.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to reconcile accounts and identify discrepancies.
