Our Opportunity

The Benefits Account Specialist is responsible for independently and proactively managing the retention & growth of client accounts. The role requires an individual who is professional and who displays the drive, determination, and self-motivation to maintain a client base. The individual will provide professional, courteous account management and broker services to assigned clients, having the primary responsibility for account retention. The Benefits Specialist will work alongside the Benefits and Implementation team to service and maintain existing accounts while uncovering opportunities for increasing business.

What You'll Do

  • Processing New Group Plans - enrollment/waiver forms/census via paper or through benefits enrollment system reports (iSolved); work with carrier and underwriting directly to process new group; coordinating and support employee orientation; producing applicable marketing material in preparation for benefits enrollment meetings.
  • Renewal - obtain/request renewal from carrier(s), contact AspenHR client service representative 60 days prior to their anniversary date to discuss their needs; Determine if they are satisfied with their current carrier or if it needs to be marketed. Analyze and evaluate client's current benefits program and needs; Suggest any possible additional coverages they may need; Generate renewal letter; Gather necessary renewal information (current census and renewal rates); Present renewal proposal to client and/or AspenHR client service representative.
  • Client Services & Administration - Receive, document, and process all group requests for service; Assist clients with claims, enrollment changes, and billing problems.
  • Plan and coordinate the annual Open Enrollment process to facilitate timely plan renewals and changes.
  • Work with internal partners, carriers, GAs (Warner Pacific & BenefitMall), and TPAs to resolve issues and to ensure accurate and timely responses.
  • Maintains a full understanding of the insurance markets, networks, and benefit plan options relative to the small group market primarily in CA. Remains fully knowledgeable on compliance issues governed by legislation and regulations impacting employer-sponsored health and welfare plans such as HIPAA, ERISA, Tax Code SEC 125, PPACA and state-sponsored health insurance exchanges.
  • Maintain agency-shared files and records.
  • Utilize company software to manage projects and track performance.
  • Keep abreast of best practices and industry trends.
  • Provide continued consultation and training to cross-functional members of AspenHR.
  • Complete all administrative tasks and duties in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate Aspen HR's core values daily.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager's discretion for both the agency and PEO master medical and ancillary plans.

Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): active Accident and Health Agent license.
  • 3+ years' experience in an Employee Benefits related position.
  • Previous experience with managing renewals and marketing small group benefit plans.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the CA small group marketplace.
  • Ability to use technology and common software and web applications, including MS Office, Zendesk, Monday.com, and iSolved

Salary: $65000 - $75000 per year
