Technical Illustration Group Manager

Dayton T. Brown is a Leader in Technical Publications | Logistics | Engineering & Test | Military Missions Systems. We have a perfect opportunity for a Full-Time, Technical Illustration Group Manager to join our amazing talented team in our Technical Services Division.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for a team of illustrators providing Illustration support to our customer programs. This includes management of associated quality, budget, scope, and schedule as it relates to the illustrations portion of all programs across the division. You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for planning and coordinating work with program managers across the division, ensuring planned and actual work are monitored, risk is mitigated, and financial constraints are monitored and met.
  • Evaluate and assign illustration work to team members and/or leaders.
  • Utilize the company's content management and status tracking tools to project work, identify status, monitor progress, and capture quality metrics.
  • Ensure all developed illustrations meet or exceed the specification requirements as well as DTB's quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our customers, which includes attending virtual and/or in person meetings to communicate status, risks, value added, and action plans.
  • Responsible for developing evaluation methods to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist with technical proposals in response to RFPs as it relates to illustrating and software solutions.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor and further develop a team of technical illustrators.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, planning, and the ability to measure both program and individual job performance.
  • Remain in tune with latest industry trends, technology, and the future of illustration development.
  • Test and evaluate new software and tools, providing analysis to program managers, and recommendations to upper management.
  • Strong oral and written communication, analytical, and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of business management and financial principles.
  • Ability to work in pressure situations and to meet tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have proven successful experience as an Illustrations Manager within a technical publication environment. Additional qualifications include:

  • 2 or 4-year degree in Illustration, Graphic Design, Mechanical Design, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years' experience in the development of technical illustrations for commercial or military programs.
  • 5+ years of experience in a management role.
  • Experience in the development of technical publications proposals and the associated illustrations impact, cost, and scheduling.
  • Experience in the development of technical illustration development processes and style guides for use in technical manuals and training products.
  • Thorough understanding of technical illustration development IAW standards such as S1000D, MIL-STD-3031, MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD_38784, ATA 100, and iSpec 2200.
  • Solid technical knowledge/experience with development of 2D and 3D illustrations, with the software required to generate them, to include Technical Illustrator, IsoDraw, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Creo-Illustrate, Blender, and 3DS Max.
  • In-depth knowledge of vector illustration development and 3D formats e.g., CGM, ISO, SVG, GLTF, and GLB.
  • strong computer skills; must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.PMP Certification a plus.
  • Be able to travel, as required.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance if required.
