Position: Digital Advocacy Strategist

Reports to: Manager, Public Advocacy and Engagement

Position Term: Full Time Temporary until September 2025

Primary Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Job Purpose:

This role is designed for a digital-savvy, strategic self-starter who excels in leveraging data for public and government engagement and advocacy. This position will play a critical role in shaping the strategy and execution of digital advocacy efforts at World Vision Canada (WVC), working closely with cross-functional teams to harness the power of data and analytics.

The Digital Advocacy Strategist will develop and lead the execution of the Advocacy & Government Engagement (AGE) team’s digital strategy and support the team in responding to the shifts and evolution of the digital and data landscape in the field.

They will elevate the team’s understanding and application of data via trainings, guiding strategic decisions and advising on monitoring and evaluation processes, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are both measurable and meaningful to monitor over time.

They will effectively target and engage segments of Canadians in advocacy actions and campaigns, with the long-term aim of converting them into committed supporters or donors of World Vision.

This role also involves creating and managing geo-targeted data sets at the electoral district (riding) level, which will be of interest to Members of Parliament (MPs).

Responsibilities:

Strategy Development& Data Analysis

  • Work with the AGE team to develop digital advocacy strategies and collaborate with WVC’s data teams to understand current data assets and identify gaps.
  • Provide ongoing consulting, training and technical assistance as needed.

Digital Testing & Optimization

  • Design and execute digital tests to continuously refine approaches to advocacy content, ensuring alignment with audience preferences and behaviors.

Engagement System Design

  • Create systems to nurture online advocates and leaders within WVC’s audience, leveraging digital tools to enhance advocacy engagement.

Geo-targeted Data Creation

  • Develop and manage data sets tailored to electoral districts, providing valuable insights to MPs and enhancing WVC’s advocacy impact.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal data teams and other relevant departments to ensure data-driven decision-making across advocacy campaigns.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Advise on the development of KPIs, ensuring that metrics are actionable and aligned with WVC’s long-term advocacy goals.

Innovation & Experimentation

  • Identify creative opportunities to use digital strategies or tactics to support or improve the ENOUGH advocacy campaign and other initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Digital Marketing, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data analytics, digital strategy, or advocacy.
  • Experience working in an advocacy, non-profit, charity sector or political campaigns an asset.
  • Experience as a digital campaigner, strategist or organizer at an organization with a large and/or sophisticated digital program, particularly at a digital-first organization, large membership organization or digital agency.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, Adobe Experience Platform, data visualization tools, Environics data systems, and social media platforms (e.g., Meta Business Suite).
  • Experience with data segmentation and journey mapping is essential.
  • Familiarity with Agile mindset and methodologies, with a preference for candidates who are SAFe certified.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategies.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present complex data in a clear and compelling way.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams in a large and complex organization.
  • A track record of experimenting with and adopting new digital tools to enhance advocacy and engagement. Meaningful experience with digital testing and optimization beyond A/B testing.
