Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Provide the most relevant support at critical times - whether it’s supporting on a referral pathway or putting users in touch with local mental health teams.
  • Undergo a risk & safety assessment that prevents, screens for and manages mental health.
  • Provide advice and support and where appropriate, referring onto local mental health teams.
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate counselling/ therapy programmes.
  • Exercise professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of individuals in line with the service.
  • Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accredited bodies.


In this role, you will cover one of the following shift patterns and we will ask you to indicate your preferred shift pattern when you apply online.


Shift Pattern A

Monday (8am to 10 am), Tuesday (8am to 10 am), Wednesday (8am to 10 am). Total of 6 hours per week.

Shift Pattern B

Saturday (8am to 3.30pm), Sunday (8am to 3.30pm). Total of 14 hours with 30 mins break.

Shift Pattern C

Monday (8am to 10 am), Tuesday (8am to 10 am), Wednesday (8am to 10 am), Saturday (8am to 3.30pm), Sunday (8am to 3.30pm). Total of 20 hours with 30 mins break on the 7 hours shifts.


The ideal candidate:

  • You will be registered as a Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologist Board and an up to date practicing certificate.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services.
  • Demonstrate experience and understanding of working within Te Whare Tapa Wha, the four cornerstones of Maori Health practices.
  • Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time.
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
  • Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers.
  • Experience with routine outcome monitoring.
  • Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
