SUMMARY:

The Clinical Services Director is responsible for clinical quality and administrative (operational) activities as assigned in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) This position requires a Registered Nurse with experience in quality and safety to serve as a key member of the clinical quality and administrative team on an as needed / PRN basis. In this role, the assigned nurse may assume leadership or staffing roles to cover the operational, quality, and clinical needs of a center(s), including executing quality and safety plans and center policies and procedures. The Clinical Services Director is responsible for knowledge of patient safety standards, compliance with applicable CMS and State regulations, accreditation standards, and provides exceptional customer service.

Work Schedule: Teammates may work from anywhere in the country for this role requiring up to 90% travel throughout the country.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of corporate and clinical services policies and procedures at the center level, with responsibility for evaluating compliance with such policies, implementing corrective actions when indicated.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state regulations and standards of accrediting organizations (AAAHC and Joint Commission) pertaining to ambulatory surgery centers. Supports assigned ASC’s in maintaining survey readiness.
  • May serve in the capacity of an interim center administrator as requested, to include oversight of clinical activities, adequate staffing, and overall administrative functions necessary to maintain day to day operations of an assigned ASC.
  • May conduct assessments of center processes/documentation to evaluate compliance with federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for evaluating and supporting safe, high-quality clinical care of assigned ASCs.
  • Develop and monitor center action plans and inform corporate quality of areas requiring process or quality improvement.
  • Evaluate staff education, training, and competencies when assigned and ensure employee files are complete.
  • Actively engage with center staff and credentialed providers. Address issues and maintain collaborative relationships with physician partners and all medical staff providers.
  • Monitor quality and patient experience data for assigned centers to identify areas for improvement and assist in development of improvement strategies.
  • Support the implementation and/or completion of CMS Quality reporting when indicated.
  • Support the preparation for Quality committee meetings to include reporting out on Infection Control, Risk Management, Environment of Care, and all other center functions.
  • Serve as an educator and subject matter expert as needed to support best practices and quality improvement activity. Knowledgeable of quality benchmarking and Patient Experience reports.
  • Ensure all required drills are completed.
  • Support analysis of supply, drug, and variable expense costs as needed
  • Support educational needs of all center staff as needed.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Sr. Director of Clinical Services, Clinical Director, and Director of Operations for assigned centers and promptly report unfavorable trends, risk issues, any survey or regulatory notices or letters including deficiency reports and plans of correction, or Patient safety events. Submit weekly report to Sr. Director of Clinical Operations.
  • Maintain professional license and continuing education, and relevant clinical and practice knowledge base.
  • PRN assignment timeframes agreed upon prior to assignment.
  • Assignments require 90% travel to ASC locations across the country.
  • Virtual attendance at biweekly team meetings and corporate educational offerings is strongly encouraged.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.
  • Designation as a licensed RN.
  • 3+ years of perioperative nursing experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in health care management, including at least 1 year as an Ambulatory Surgery Center Administrator.
  • Exceptional computer skills, i.e., MS Office, Word, and Excel to support all center operations.
  • Experience with sterilization and high-level disinfection processes preferred.
