Description

Spatial Front provides IT solutions to federal governments and the private sector. We are looking for an Application Manager with a specialization in digital preservation systems to join our team on a long-term contract for USDA. This is a remote full-time position. 


**Please note this role is contingent on award. Employment will depend on SFI winning this contract, which will be announced at a later date. 

Requirements

Summary of Major Job Functions

  • Application Management: Oversee the deployment, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of digital preservation systems, including Archivematica and ArchivesSpace, within the project’s cloud environment.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and manage Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and single Sign-On (SSO), and ensure all systems meet federal cybersecurity and Section 508 accessibility standards.
  • System Integration: Manage and optimize integrations between digital preservation systems and other applications, including storage adapter connections and server interactions.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Provide expert technical support, troubleshoot system issues, and implement upgrades and patches to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with federal staff, externally guided support, and the cloud team to support complex application interactions and maintain seamless operations.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of system infrastructure, processes, procedures, and any software implementations or updates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Data Management: Ensure the integrity, security, and accessibility of digital preservation data through ongoing maintenance and analysis.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in digital preservation systems, guiding best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Project Leadership: Lead projects to ensure priority tasks are executed effectively, coordinating efforts across teams and ensuring adherence to timelines and requirements.
  • Solution Design: Design and implement IT solutions that support digital preservation and archival management, collaborating with internal staff and external partners.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all systems and processes comply with federal standards, and provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in managing IT projects and applications within large organizations, with a focus on digital preservation systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is highly desired.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud computing (e.g., Microsoft Azure), cybersecurity, or project management are strongly preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, Linux and Windows server administration, and application management (particularly Archivematica and ArchivesSpace).
  • System Design and User Support: Strong understanding of system design, development, and implementation, along with user support principles.
  • Database Management: Experience in managing and maintaining SQL databases.
  • Project Management: Familiarity with project management principles and experience in leading IT-related projects.
  • Scripting and Automation: Demonstrated skill in scripting and automation to streamline processes and improve system efficiency.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Security Expertise: Experience with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Archivematica and ArchivesSpace Administration: In-depth knowledge and experience with the administration and maintenance of Archivematica and ArchivesSpace systems.
  • Archival Practices: Awareness of archival standards and metadata practices, with the ability to apply these in the management of digital and born-digital archives.

  • To meet the clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be to work in the United States.

  • The salary for this position is $110,000 - $160,000 annually
