Our mission to build the future of commerce is real. We push the boundaries of what’s possible to solve problems and break traditional tradeoffs. Joining Coupang means joining a company that plays a significant and growing role in how technology, investment and trade are shaping commerce globally.

The Position: The Principal role is newly created and will report to the Head of the Global Affairs function. The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing and executing government relations strategies focused on the executive branch of the U.S. federal government. The objective is to promote Coupang and advance the company’s policy priorities. This will involve forging and managing relationships with key U.S. executive-branch officials, including officials at the U.S. Department of State, relevant U.S. embassies, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and on the staff of the National Security Council.

The role will work with a growing government relations team based in Washington, D.C. as well as numerous retail, government relations, legal, communications, and technology professionals based across the globe.

  • Coordinating with internal Coupang business, legal, and communications teams to craft and refine the company’s policy priorities.
  • Executing all details—no matter how small—of government relations initiatives with the U.S. executive branch.

Experience & Expertise

  • Governmental and/or government affairs experience: 10-15 years of experience in government and/or government affairs involving at least one of the relevant agencies. Prior service in the U.S. executive branch at a relevant agency is preferred.
  • Indo-Pacific, Technology, and/or Trade Policy Expertise: Candidate must exhibit fluency in either U.S. strategy and policy toward the Indo-Pacific region, U.S. technology policy, or U.S. trade policy—preferably all three.
  • Existing Network: Candidate should possess a network of relevant government officials, policy thinkers, and government affairs professionals.
  • High Metabolism: Candidate must demonstrate a “high metabolism” work style. It is essential that a candidate be able to take initiative, make judgments amidst uncertainty, and move with urgency to seize opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
