Shalom Austin is seeking a skilled and motivated part-time grant writer to join our team and help us secure funding to support our important work, especially in the areas of social services and education. This is a contract position for at least a 6–8–month contract period.

Working together with the Shalom Austin Development Director and Jewish Family Service (JFS) Chief Social Services Officer, this position will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to various funding organizations and foundations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant writing, excellent research and organization skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and potential funders.

The grant writer is a hybrid (remote/in-person) position and can start as soon as possible. This position will primarily be managed by the Development Director, Major Gifts and Corporate Partnerships, and will be asked to participate in weekly meetings to develop and execute an action plan for grant submissions and follow up. The grant writer will meet with other Shalom Austin staff members and lay leaders as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

· Grant Research: Identify and research potential grant opportunities that align with Shalom Austin’s mission and programs.

· Proposal Writing: Develop clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documents.

· Documentation: Gather, organize, and maintain necessary data and documentation for grant applications and reports.

· Collaboration: Work closely with program staff and leadership to understand programmatic needs and to ensure that proposals accurately reflect the organization’s goals and activities.

· Deadline Management: Track grant application deadlines and manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submissions.

· Reporting: Assist with preparing and submitting grant reports and updates as required by funders and as requested by the Development Director

Grant Management: Monitor and follow up on submitted proposals and maintain records of all grant-related correspondence

To apply, please submit a cover letter explaining your interest in the position, a resume, two references and a writing sample. Interviews will be offered on a rolling basis, so interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Requirements

· Experience: Proven experience in grant writing, including successful grant applications. A portfolio of previous work is a plus.

· Skills: Excellent writing, editing, and research skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively. A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality and track record of being a team player who can work with a diverse group of colleagues and external stakeholders. Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines and effectively pivot from one to the next.

· Knowledge: Familiarity with grant writing best practices and the grant application process. Understanding non-profit funding environments is advantageous.

· Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and grant management software. Familiarity with research databases and online grant portals is beneficial.

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Non-profit Management, Social Work or a related field
