Our two campuses in Methuen and Haverhill have a total of 320 beds, and we are a full-service, acute care hospital offering comprehensive inpatient medical/surgical units, outpatient care, and 24/7 emergency services. We have three behavioral health units: cardiac telemetry, and critical care service lines. Our Haverhill campus offers all private rooms, and our Methuen campus offers a new state-of-the-art catheterization suite and Joint Center of Excellence, named as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction+ Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.

Position Summary: 40 hour days, Remote

Summary

  • Serves as a team leader and resource for day-to-day coding operations. Reviews daily control reports, workload, coder assignments and coverage. Assists in reconciling coding and billing edits or other issues hat preclude timely billing. Responds to delays with outstanding queries, status changes, uncoded or incomplete charts. Assists with cross-training, denials management, appeals, and education plans. Makes recommendations and immediately reports concerns to Director.
  • Reviews medical records and assigns ICD-10-CM and CPT -4 codes for inpatients, day surgery, and observation other outpatient medical records including emergency department records. Abstracts/ verifies additional data required to maintain an accurate hospital patient database.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 classifications systems, encoder software and demonstrated understanding of MS-DRG and APC assignment and reimbursement.
  • Ensures medical records are coded in an accurate and timely manner, according to the hospital and official ICD-10-CM coding guidelines.
  • Skilled in assignment of facility level codes. Abstracting clinical information from inpatient and outpatient medical records.
  • Attends Revenue Cycle Meetings, CDI meetings and any other meetings concerning coding.

Qualifications

  • Education: CCS credential required. Accredited Health Information Technician credentials preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: CCS
  • Experience: Two years of acute hospital coding experience.
  • Software/Hardware: Microsoft applications, encoder, Meditech preferred.
