Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure)

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to become part of our Motors business and help support our high-performing Cloud and Security team in Motors.

We are embarking on significant business transformation projects, including modernising our legacy Azure-based technologies. We need a top-notch Senior Engineer to join our team and help guide the technology teams through this journey.

About the role:

As Senior Cloud Engineer, you’ll be a hands-on contributor supporting our cross-functional development teams. You’ll be relied on to independently develop and deliver strategies to propel our Cloud Migration. You’ll focus on extending and improving our high-traffic platform while mentoring engineers around you and maintaining and advocating strong development standards

Key responsibilities will include:

As a Strong Contributor, you will play a key role in helping us migrate to a modern cloud-based automotive platform.

• Assist in defining and executing cloud strategy, focusing on the migration from a VM-based Azure estate to a scalable, cloud-based solution
• Support refactoring complex systems and resolving issues by balancing technical debt with business priorities
• Maintain and improve VM-based systems in the short to medium-term
• Develop infrastructure on Azure using Terraform, Helm, and Azure services
• Manage Azure VMs and a small GCP footprint in a hybrid cloud environment
• Ensure high-quality code by improving coding standards, best practices, performance, reliability, availability, scalability, and security
• Troubleshoot performance and reliability issues, collaborating across teams
• Engage in design reviews, operational readiness, and service demand forecasting
• Contribute to the wider engineering department through knowledge sharing, fostering continuous improvement
• Support cloud cost management and FinOps
• Monitor cloud services, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs
• Join the cloud on-call team and support agile outcomes

Ideally, we are looking for;

We would expect you to have proven experience in the following areas:

• A top contributor in cloud engineering with several years of experience in designing and building scalable solutions.
• You have a proven record of successfully migrating business-critical applications from legacy infrastructure into a modern cloud environment
• Competent technical skills in DevOps and CI/CD, preferably using Azure DevOps
• Experienced with Identity Management & RBAC
• Strong knowledge and working experience with Terraform and the principles of best practice with IaC
• Good Understanding of Azure Security Principals, including Managed Identities & Key Vault
• Proficient in performance monitoring and observability best practices
• Comprehensive understanding of Azure Networking (Hub & Spoke network topology)

Experience in the following technologies:

• Microsoft Azure
• Azure DevOps
• Azure Entra
• Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Performance monitoring (Azure Monitor, App Insights, Prometheus & Grafana)
• Network configuration (Application Gateway, Front Door)
• Terraform
• PagerDuty
• Windows Servers

Previous experience with the following is a bonus:

• Azure Data Lake
• GCP
• SonarCloud
• Palo Alto
