The insurance industry is undergoing tremendous change and Liberty Mutual, a diversified global insurer and third largest property and casualty insurer in the US, is leading the charge with its innovative products and customer-centric approach within both its personal and commercial units. Liberty Mutual’s United States Retail Markets is seeking an experienced and talented person in the Risk Analytics Modeling team to support the actuarial reserving and analytics supporting both personal and small commercial lines of business.

In this role, you will work to continue advancing our understanding of and ability to predict loss and loss adjustments expenses through new data sources, tools, analytics, and advanced modeling techniques. This person will also be a foundational cornerstone in the implementation of our work into the business, including understanding the business needs and best ways to get our work into the hands of those who need it. This position requires candidates who understand insurance, are intellectually curious, love data, can extract insights and actively partner with and support our business partners.

Responsibilities Include

  • Organizes and prioritizes a portfolio of data science work, including the development of a project vision and strategy.
  • Utilizes advanced analytics or data science techniques to solve business problems, including building, utilizing, updating, or adapting predictive modeling tools (GLM, Time Series, etc.) for the business application of our work.
  • Engage with actuarial, claims, and additional business partners to identify critical needs to then determine optimal solution; Works with other teams clarifying business requirements, removing roadblocks, constantly communicating, and gaining alignment around project strategy and priorities.
  • Analyze feasibility, cost ramifications, economies, or other aspects of planned or potential projects.
  • Define quality of standard for delivery and provide feedback to team and improve team processes.
  • Partner across functions as needed to coordinate delivery plans, testing, training, and support.
  • Communicate the project strategy effectively to key stakeholders and team members. Incorporate stakeholder input into product roadmap while effectively negotiating tradeoffs of conflicting priorities based on value to the business and customer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s degree in quantitative field with 10+ years, typically 12 or more, of related experience within insurance, actuarial, data science or technology product management preferred. Master`s degree preferred.
  • Actuarial function experience or designation (ACAS or FCAS) or prior data science work preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerBI and PowerPoint and familiarity with SAS, SQL, Python and other big data and emerging technology tools.
  • Strong business acumen, communication skills, ability to influence stakeholders and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to quickly grasp new concepts and technologies and adapt to changes and demands in fast-paced, dynamic environment.
