The More in Common Alliance is a historic partnership between CommonSpirit Health and Morehouse School of Medicine, aimed at addressing the underlying causes of health inequities, including the lack of representation among care providers. Together, we are spearheading a 10 year, $115-million initiative to expand undergraduate and graduate medical education and train the next generation of representative, culturally competent health clinicians and researchers.

The System Director of Philanthropy is responsible for planning and administering a comprehensive and balanced fundraising program in support, overseeing the fundraising progress toward the successful attainment of the More in Common Alliance $100 million philanthropic campaign. This role reports to the System Vice President, Philanthropy Campaigns.
Position Description
The Director will set and implement complex strategic activities/collateral for fundraising, including giving opportunities, case statements and proposals.
The Director will be responsible for the management and recruitment of staff, volunteer and support groups, councils, committees and measures their impact on the overall goals of the associated organization.
She/he will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors to build and maintain a prospect and donor base for the More in Common Alliance, engaging prospects and developing their relationship with the organization, ultimately increasing giving.
Must exhibit a passion and demonstrated support of advancing the mission of health equity while keeping the organization's mission, vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action, as well as ensuring that the patient perspective is a driving force behind our actions and business decisions; crafting and implementing service practices that meet patients' and own organization’s needs.
The Director is a flexible and creative and strategic thinker able to develop new ways to engage potential and existing donors, create new giving opportunities and programs, develop outreach strategies to encourage new gifts, as well as increasing current donor contributions at all levels.
She/he will build and assume a portfolio of donors and conducting direct solicitations at the six and seven-figure level, establishing a pipeline of prospects guided by moves management principles.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently and collaborate with professional colleagues in both philanthropy and clinical settings, and is a visionary storyteller to evangelize the work of the More in Common Alliance, Morehouse School of Medicine and CommonSpirit Health.
Required Skills and Abilities
- The successful candidate must have led a major comprehensive fundraising campaign of at least $5 million preferably in a healthcare or higher education setting
- Must have personally secured multiple seven-figure gifts ($1M+) from individuals or families throughout professional career
- Must have secured corporate and foundation grants of at least six-figures - preferred experience in securing state and/or federal grants to support graduate medical education
- Must have had experience staffing senior-level executives and volunteers to make calls on major donor prospects
- Must have had experience shaping campaign messaging and working with multiple communication platforms to customize donor approach and experience
- Must have demonstrated track record of entrepreneurial approaches to problem-solving, an ability to stay focused in the face of possible obstacles, and the ability to be resourceful in maximizing full resources
- Must have experience hiring and guiding the work of a development team to ensure performance metrics are established and achieved.

Qualifications:
Required Experience and Education
- Minimum of seven (7) years of not-for-profit fundraising and development experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of management experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Licensure
- CFRE desired, but not required
