Top Work Place of Orange County, California, LIBERTY Dental Plan, is seeking an Assistant Controller. 

                          

This position will work onsite in our beautiful Corporate Office located in Tustin, California.

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for supporting the Controller with oversight of essential functions of the Finance department. Core duties will be general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and leading the monthly close. The monthly close process for LDP involves multiple entities and must be kept on schedule. Additional duties may include (but are not limited to) reviewing financial statements for accuracy and completeness, account reconciliations, financial statement analytics, internal controls, system and customer implementations, and compliance functions.

 

Job Summary Details

  • Coordinate and drive the month-end close process to a successful and timely conclusion.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Preparing financial statements according to GAAP, with footnotes.
  • Maintenance of financial statement supporting schedules and documentation, particularly excellent and clear account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and guidance around internal control policies and procedures.
  • Prepare internal management reports and variance analysis on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination for the annual audit and regulatory audits.
  • Review and analyze accounts receivable and accounts payable to assure posting accuracy and correct processing.
  • Liaising with accounting software system vendors and consultants.
  • Able to work longer hours during “crunch" times, such as close, annual audits, and other busy times typical of Finance.
  • Rational, objective management style. Willing to pitch in and be hands-on when necessary.
  • Assisting in special projects and any other tasks as assigned.
  • Promotes and supports a teamwork culture and environment.
  • Ensure interactions remain positive and professional with all persons with whom you interact in the course of your work both internally and externally.
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment following established protocols.
  • Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliation review and signoff.
  • Lead Treasury and Cash Management activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or determined appropriate.

 

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred.
  • 10 years progressive Public or private accounting experience required, which includes 1-2 years supervisory level, including successfully accomplishing monthly, quarterly and annual closes.
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Controller preferred.

 

 

Specific Skills/Knowledge

  • Expert understanding of the dental or insurance industry, including understanding of statutory basis accounting and regulatory filings.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, standards (such as GAAP or IFRS), and practices.
  • Ability to use Excel for complex financial analysis, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.

  • Ability to analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and insights.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address financial discrepancies and operational issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey financial information clearly and effectively.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software like SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics; system implementation experiences a plus.
  • Strong team player with a friendly and personable demeanor to work in a mid-size accounting environment is essential.
  • Ability to review and provide guidance on newly adopted accounting pronouncements.
  • Experienced in reviewing account reconciliation.
  • High ethical standards and integrity in handling financial information.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing financial conditions and organizational needs.

Compensation

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary for this position is $135,000 - $185,000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.  If you are hired at LIBERTY, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience.  In addition to those factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any, final offer.  Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role.  Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.
