Description

Join a leading staffing agency as we seek individuals for Coding Specialist positions within our Health Information Management team. This role involves accurately assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic and procedure codes for clinical encounters, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines to guarantee proper reimbursement. This position is fully remote for candidates located outside of California, New York, New Jersey, Colorado, Oregon, and Hawaii.

In this role, you will provide critical inpatient coding support, working with various discharge departments such as Postpartum, Newborn, Cardiac ICU, Ortho, Nephrology, and Neurosciences. The responsibilities include ensuring adherence to CMS’ Official Coding Guidelines and actively participating in performance improvement initiatives for coding quality and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes by translating diagnostic statements, physician orders, and documentation accurately.
  • Identify appropriate charges based on documentation and coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with HIM staff to clarify vague or incomplete documentation.
  • Adhere to Health Information Management (HIM) Coding policies and guidelines.
  • Interpret and apply American Hospital Association (AHA) Official Coding Guidelines.
  • Maintain coding certification and stay updated with current ICD-10-CM guidelines.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Consistently meet or exceed productivity and quality standards defined by Leadership.

Skills And Certifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of previous inpatient coding experience is required.
  • Experience in acute care facilities or Trauma Level II coding is preferred.
  • AAPC, AHIMA, or Certified Coding credential (excluding apprenticeship classification) is required.
  • Proficiency in CPT Assistant and HCPCS coding manuals is essential.
