Description

Join a leading staffing agency as we seek three Coding Specialist candidates for a Health Information Management opportunity. This fully remote position (available for candidates in all states except CA, NY, NJ, CO, OR, and HI) requires expertise at a Level II Trauma center, with skills in coding from various discharge departments. The role will involve accurately assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic/procedure PCS codes on clinical encounters, adhering to regulatory and CMS Official Guidelines for coding and reporting.

This position supports the Health Information Management department and requires collaboration with leadership to complete coding assignments for inpatient admissions, including departments such as Postpartum, Newborn, Cardiac ICU, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes by translating diagnostic statements and physician orders.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and abstract pertinent data from documentation.
  • Identify appropriate charges based on documentation and coding guidelines.
  • Utilize the physician clarification process when documentation is ambiguous or incomplete.
  • Adhere to Health Information Management (HIM) Coding policies and interpret American Hospital Association (AHA) Official Coding Guidelines.
  • Maintain coding certification and stay updated on ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and regulatory changes.
  • Contact HIM staff for assistance in obtaining physician clarification.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and quality standards set by department leadership.

Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years of previous inpatient coding experience is required.
  • Experience in acute care facilities or Trauma Level II coding preferred.
  • Current AAPC, AHIMA, or other Certified Coding credential required (apprenticeship classification excluded).
