You will play a crucial role in evaluating and treating individuals with speech, language, or swallowing difficulties. This position involves working closely with clients to identify their treatment goals and create personalized treatment plans that address their unique needs. Your expertise will help clients improve their communication abilities and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Clients: Assess levels of speech, language, or swallowing difficulties to determine the best course of treatment.
  • Set Goals: Collaborate with clients to identify their goals for treatment.
  • Develop Treatment Plans: Create and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to the specific functional needs of each client.

  • Counseling: Offer guidance and support to clients and their families on managing communication and swallowing disorders.

Client Focus

You will work with a diverse range of clients who have various speech and language challenges, including cognitive and social communication problems. Clients may struggle with speaking, rhythm, and fluency issues such as stuttering, or have difficulty understanding language. You will also assist clients in using alternative communication systems when necessary and meticulously document their progress and any changes in their condition or treatment plans.

Specializations

There are also opportunities to engage in research related to speech and language topics.

In this role, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, surgeons, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, audiologists, and other healthcare professionals. In school settings, you will evaluate students for speech and language disorders, collaborating with teachers, school personnel, and parents to develop and implement individual or group programs, provide counseling, and support classroom activities.
