Description

We are seeking a dedicated Adjunct Double Reed Instructor to join our Department of Visual and Performing Arts for the 2024-2025 academic year. This role is perfect for an educator passionate about Music Education and skilled in teaching applied double reeds, including both oboe and bassoon.

As the Adjunct Double Reed Instructor, you will provide high-quality instruction in oboe and bassoon, contributing to the musical growth of our undergraduate students. Your role will include teaching applied lessons, a weekly studio class, reed-making techniques, and guiding chamber ensembles as assigned. In the Spring semester, you will also teach the double reed section of the Woodwind Methods class. Additional courses may be assigned based on your experience and the evolving needs of our music program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach applied lessons for oboe and bassoon students
  • Lead weekly studio classes focused on technique and performance
  • Instruct reed-making for oboe and bassoon
  • Conduct chamber ensembles and provide expert guidance
  • Teach the double reed section of the Woodwind Methods class (Spring semester)
  • Support the department with additional courses based on qualifications and program needs

Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong musicianship and effective rehearsal techniques
  • Proven experience teaching university-level music students
  • Ability to recruit, retain, and inspire music students
  • A collaborative approach to working in a university environment
  • A commitment to supporting a diverse student body

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Music with a focus on Oboe or Bassoon
  • Proven experience teaching both oboe and bassoon students
  • Experience teaching reed-making for both instruments
  • Experience teaching Woodwind Methods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate or ABD in Music (with doctorate conferred by the time of appointment), with a focus on Oboe or Bassoon
  • Additional experience in teaching Woodwind Methods
  • Strong background in teaching reed-making for oboe and bassoon
