Your missions

Description

Join a dynamic team dedicated to the nuclear security mission of the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing essential design and construction oversight for complex nuclear and non-nuclear capital projects. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and modernizing secure and safe infrastructures.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly review and evaluate civil and structural designs for new construction and renovation projects within NNSA facilities.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to federal, state, and agency regulations related to civil and structural engineering.
  • Participate in project reviews, offering expertise in civil and structural engineering.
  • Contribute to infrastructure assessments to guarantee structural integrity and safety.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Provide recommendations and guidance on best practices and innovations in civil and structural engineering.
  • Coordinate and develop comprehensive briefings and reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in civil or structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Expertise in seismic analysis and design criteria for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
  • Proficiency in major national consensus codes and standards related to steel and concrete structural design, as well as international building code provisions.
  • Experience with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) quality program for the design of safety-related structural systems.
  • Experience designing for natural hazards such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software for structural analysis.
  • Willingness to travel as required for project needs and site visits (less than 25% travel).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency in structural modeling and analysis software such as ANSYS, GT STRUDAL.
  • Previous experience working for a Management and Operating (M&O) contractor at DOE/NNSA sites.

Location

This is a full-time onsite position in Albuquerque, NM, USA. Telework options are available with a requirement to be in the office at least three days a week based on meeting and office needs.

Salary

Salaries are determined based on external market data, internal equity, and the candidate's related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
