We believe in paying people fairly, so we've established a compensation model aimed to ensure everyone at Fearless — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, nationality, or negotiation skills — is given equal pay for equal work. Our approach to compensation is intended to ensure our total package serves all of your needs and includes base pay, medical and other benefits, performance rewards, 401k matching, plus a few perks (tech and wellness reimbursement programs)! Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.

The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

  • DC Residents: $109,503 (min) - $142.354 (mid) - $175,204 (max)
  • CA & NY Residents:  $113,215 (min) - $147,179 (mid) - $181,143 (max)

Summary 

The Data Scientist II is proficient in building algorithms, data modeling, and building data-driven solutions that solve customer business problems. They are responsible for partnering with customers to perform statistical analysis and build machine learning models. The Data Scientist II support prototypes and scalable production solutions to help customers make data-driven solutions.

Responsibilities and Contributions 
Organizational and Leadership Role 
  • Coaches and mentors others by example and through direct coaching on machine learning and artificial intelligence skills.
  • Takes initiative for their own growth through personal leadership.
  • Strengthens our Data Science community and practice.
Functional Role 
  • Guides team on evaluating the customer’s needs, advising on both the benefits and risks of potential artificial intelligence.
  • Facilitates customer understanding of the impact of AI on their operating model and develops their skills in and comfort with machine learning solutions.
  • Develops custom data models, algorithms, and predictive models to perform multifaceted analysis.
  • Builds and maintains predictive models and machine learning algorithms from the ground up to solve real-world business challenges.
  • Stitches, calibrates, and optimizes sparse and noisy data across various data sources.
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders and teams of stakeholders to understand business problems, help define them into KPIs, and deliver insightful analysis in reports or visualizations.
  • Conducts regular, ad-hoc data and analysis needs to better understand customer behaviors. 
  • Supports and guides teams in running growth programs and A/B tests by analyzing results and communicating findings and insights.
  • Understands, monitors, and collaborates with teams to ensure ongoing data quality.
  • Researches industry trends, advising the customer on applicable solutions and applying them to support their organizational needs.
  • Works with the customer and relevant stakeholders to understand the potential impacts on the customer and the broader community of any models that are in development.
Project-specific Contributions
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis and research; 
  • Develop predictive models and derive actionable insights
  • Collaborate with other data scientists and engineers to ensure robust analysis.
Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies  
Must-Have Skills
  • A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated related working experience
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting in-depth academic research and using findings to influence stakeholder decisions
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated high proficiency in Python
  • Proficiency with deep learning tools and at least one machine learning tool, such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or cloud-provider equivalents. 
  • Proven skills in statistics, data processing, or data annotation.
  • Proficiency with various types of databases, such as relational, key-value, document, graph.
  • Proficient in OLAP data storage technologies like data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Proven ability to work with at least one machine learning tool like Hadoop, Apache Spark, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn, or cloud-provider equivalents.
  • Skilled in the usage of visualization tools and techniques like D3 Dash, ggplot, Tableau, or equivalents.
  • Proficient in cloud computing technologies such as Azure, Databricks, AWS, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Ability to view data and determine what questions to ask, what assumptions to make, what algorithms to use, and how to get the biggest impact from it.
  • Ability to understand and respond to customer needs and collaborate as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, build relationships, and influence others.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (or possess an active clearance)
Highly Desired
  • Active Public Trust or higher security credential/clearance
  • BS in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technology-related degree.
  • Understanding of software architecture, full-stack development, and platform solutions in the development and production of artificial intelligence that meet the mission objectives and goals of our clients.
