Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical Coder and Biller with a specialization in vascular coding to provide exceptional coding and charting guidance to our doctors and scribes. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of 2022 CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes, along with experience in CCI edits, DRG, and the correct use of modifiers. A minimum of 2 years in surgical coding is required, alongside a thorough knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology. Your analytical skills will be vital as you consult, advise, and code medical records, ensuring a smooth billing process.

Essential Functions

  • Research and assign appropriate coding options for medical procedures related to lower extremities, both in-office and surgical.
  • Attend educational opportunities to stay current on coding rules and regulations.
  • Prepare medical record documentation and assist in preparing charts for doctors and clinicians.
  • Capture and transcribe medical record documentation during patient visits.
  • Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for clinic visits and surgical procedures.
  • Assist team members with coding inquiries, documentation, denials, and billing questions.
  • Follow all clinic policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance.
  • Work efficiently within EHR systems (EPIC and eClinical Works) to maintain accurate records.
  • Review patient charts for verification and accuracy, clarifying any unclear information as needed.
  • Participate in various projects and meetings, completing additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Cross-train and support coworkers as needed.

Knowledge And Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in medical coding, with at least 2 years in surgical coding.
  • Certification as a CPC for medical practices is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with legal, regulatory, and compliance issues related to medical coding and billing.
  • High school diploma required; an associate degree is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other office software.
  • Experience with EHR systems, particularly EPIC or eCW, is essential.
  • Strong command of English (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking).
  • Understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with the operations of medical offices and hospitals.
