About the Role
Our 10-week Gap Inc. Summer Internship Program offers meaningful work experiences across various business areas, allowing you to deepen your functional knowledge and immerse yourself in the fast-paced retail industry. You’ll work on projects that directly impact our bottom line and present your work to senior management, while also participating in company events like executive speaker series and off-site activities. Upon completion of the internship, successful interns will be well-positioned for full time roles after they graduate.

The Technical Design Intern will assist the team in maintaining and executing design aesthetics through consistent fit and construction, aligned to our customers' needs. You will be a strong collaborator and able to translate design concepts into specifications for costing and first prototypes, by leveraging fit camps and maintaining overall customer fit consistency. You will also work closely with other Technical Design team members and partners to support various initiatives.

Salary Range: $31.00 - $33.00 Per Hour
What You'll Do
  • Utilize understanding of garment construction, patternmaking, alterations, and grading to assist the Technical Design team. 

  • Assist the team with full garment specing at every bulk fit round, garment steaming and preparation for bulk fittings. 

  • Utilize knowledge of Fit, Construction, and Quality; strong understanding of the brand, customer, and cost requirement to provide input on fit & construction risk management. 

  • Partner with Tech Designer on updates to PLM software or Tech Pack Management system 

  • Assist Tech Designer with ensuring Physical and Digital samples comply with brand standards throughout the product creation process 

  • Support team with maintaining the block library and fit guide 

  • Partner with Tech Designer and Quality Assurance team to identify and implement Gap’s best practices. Look for opportunities for continuous improvement based on customer feedback, return rates, and customer online reviews. 

Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s degree in progress. Concentration in pattern making and 3D technology preferred  

  • Must be in your Junior academic year graduating in December 2025 and Spring 2026   

  • Ability to work Monday – Friday from mid-June to mid-August  

  • Foundational knowledge of 3D rendering and/or digital pattern software such as Clo (ability to upskill to GAP L1 Level: DPC) 

  • Soft Skills- Demonstrate ability to influence the cross-functional team and help the team reach highly informed decisions. 

  • Stays up to date with relevant trends and competitor fit attributes by maintaining a customer-centric mindset and an aesthetic eye 

  • Proactive self-starter; one who develops and utilizes tools, resources, and processes that support innovative and effective ways of working through all stages of product development. 

  • Organization skills - Ability to assess relatively complex situations and analyze data to recommend solutions. 

  • A natural problem-solver who uses a solution-centric approach in his/her/their team for costing solutions and brand standards.
