Our Parsons Irvine, California office is now hiring for a Civil Transportation Engineer with our road, highway, and rail/transit team.

We are looking for a Road/Highway Design engineer to perform a variety of engineering tasks by applying standard engineering techniques and analyses within the civil engineering discipline. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer, early in their career, to join an established team of experts, be mentored and work on many exciting new projects and proposals! Our Engineers enjoy diversity in their work - you might work on a state road rehabilitation, a highway project, adding a new lane, an interchanges, and paving design. We offer hybrid remote working ( meaning, allowed to work from home virtual 2-3 days per week).

RESONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to utilize specifications to complete proposed designs, and able to collaborate with other engineers and clients to finalize and complete highway and road designs.
  • Our Highway design engineer will design horizontal and vertical geometry for highway and road projects, and will analyze cross sections, calculate super-elevations, grading vertical alignments and horizontal impacts for roads and highways in California.
  • Perform vertical clearance calculations, grading and permit/plan preparation, as well as use existing horizontal alignments to design new roadway alignments.
  • perform material quantity takeoffs, estimates and surveys.
  • Reviews contractor supplied drawing submittals and assists in performing technical bid analyses.
  • Under close supervision in the utilization of engineering theories and practices, develops the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements.
  • Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • This is a full-time position with benefits, career development, mentoring and bonus for the first PE license.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field). Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Candidates with 3  years or more  of related road/highway design will be considered, and a  preference is for candidates with  some Horizontal/vertical geometrics work experience. Internship rotations would be considered as potentially valuable applicable experience.
  • Experience designing highways, roads, intersections, calculating vertical clearances and drafting in CAD (either AutoCAD or MicroStation) is preferred.
  • Any experience with Caltrans agency or other large municipality requirements, is desirable
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate preferred. Candidates without an EIT are expected to receive certificate within one year of the hire date.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Must have at least some working knowledge of CAD, MicroStation, Open Roads or  InRoads and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering. Autocad Civil 3D considered as well.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with other engineers and clients is required

Salary Range: 

$61,200.00 - $123,400.00
