Description

Formulate, communicate, and advocate BI´s position on public policy issues affected by the various branches of the federal and state government. Create strategies with government stakeholders to advance proprietary BI business objectives related to our therapeutic areas. Provide corporate perspective on government policy developments, assess potential impact on BI businesses, identify opportunities and mitigate risks. This position offers a base salary typically between $180,000 and $225,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus, relocation and or other compensation elements.  For an overview of our benefits please click here. 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Identify, build and execute a variety of strategies and tactics to drive strategies related to BI therapeutic area goals across federal and state governments as well as key Agencies (CMS, HHS, CMMI).
  • Represent GAPP on select therapeutic area extended brand teams and other cross-functional teams (payer, healthcare professional, patient) to align strategies with corporate objectives.
  • Work with federal and state teams to track and analyze effects of legislation and regulation on BI´s therapeutic areas.
  • Collaborate with internal brand teams and other business partners to develop key therapeutic area materials (e.g., toolkits, talking points, one-pagers) for state and federal colleague utilization; and coordinate and complete the internal approval processes.
  • Work with key internal business partners to prepare for pending legislative and regulatory proposals and evaluate the impact on our business. Highlight strategies to mitigate risks and seek potential opportunities created by enacted legislation.
  • Encourage adoption of BI policy positions by industry trade groups (e.g., PhRMA) and leverage their lobbying and influence to advance our priorities. Staff PhRMA and BIO work groups across federal policy topics.
  • Develop resources and materials to support analysis of proposals and arguments regarding BI policy positions.
  • Lead and execute additional projects for Government Affairs and Public Policy (e.g., highlight GAPP value, material for Corporate, communications plans) based on team needs.
  • Performs company business in such a manner as to comply with those laws and company policies which prohibit discrimination and adhere to any federal, state and local rules as applicable.
Requirements
  • Bachelor´s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years combined experience in government affairs in private industry, government, or a consultant firm in pharmaceuticals/health care is required.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams addressing public policy issues.
  • Experience with projects supporting business objectives.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry and related public policy issues is required.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of state and federal government affairs and public policy, including policy analysis and government relations.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience analyzing health care proposals, identifying key provisions, and assessing impact on pharmaceutical industry is desired.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
