Your missions

Who we are

At Handspring, our ultimate objective is to create a world where all young people are empowered to lead resilient and fulfilling lives by making quality mental healthcare accessible for all families.  Today, 1 in 5 of children in the US have a diagnosable mental health disorder. However, about half of children who need care do not receive it from a behavioral health provider. As they seek care, families often face waits that are several months long and fees that are prohibitively expensive. Today’s healthcare system is failing our children, and Handspring has set out to rebuild this system from the ground up.

About the role

Handspring is a mission-driven, early-stage healthcare organization. We are interested in working with people with an ownership mindset and who thrive in a collaborative environment. We are an ego-free organization.

We are seeking a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our team as a Supervising Psychiatrist. In this role, you will be responsible for supervising mid-level practitioners, including Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs). You will provide clinical oversight, consultation, and mentorship, ensuring that patient care meets the highest standards and complies with state, federal, and professional guidelines. You will also ensure adherence to Handspring policies and procedures, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for PA/NPs, while providing leadership and guidance to help them grow and excel in their roles.

This is an opportunity to be a core part of a mission-driven organization that is looking to transform pediatric behavioral healthcare.  You will work closely with Handspring’s Clinical Leadership.

What you’ll do

  • Supervise and provide consultation to mid-level practitioners (NPs and PAs), ensuring quality care and compliance with Handspring policies and applicable state and federal laws

  • Maintain access to and supervise documentation in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Co-sign charts as required and conduct chart reviews as needed

  • Provide second opinion consultations as needed for complex cases

  • Be available during clinic hours for clinical consultations and questions from NPs and PAs

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless integration of psychiatric services with other therapeutic interventions

  • Participate in outcomes measurement efforts, contributing to the definition and tracking of key performance metrics

  • Provide mentorship and support to staff, enhancing their psychiatric care capabilities

  • Stay knowledgeable of and ensure adherence to Handspring’s protocols, policies, and procedures. Help improve guidelines and care processes

  • Allow credentialing under our group on insurance panels

What we’re looking for

  • M.D. or D.O. and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

  • Active, unrestricted medical licenses in New Jersey & Pennsylvania and DEA certification

  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications; and evidenced-based/best practices treatment modalities for children , teens, and young adults

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health practice (experience in a supervisory role is a plus)

  • Ability to supervise mid-level providers and review patient cases

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Ability to commit approximately 1-3 hours per week to this role

Compensation:

  • You will be an independent contractor (1099)

    • Compensation: $200-250 an hour

    • Compensation is determined by years of licensure, years of pediatric mental health experience, and supervisory experience

This is an independent contractor (1099) opportunity.
