Job Description:

NuvoLogic Consulting is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Disaster Recovery & Resilience (ODR&R). This role is crucial in managing and optimizing the database systems that underpin the advanced data analytics tools and products used in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. 

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for designing and implementing robust database solutions, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability. Your expertise will be crucial in tuning database performance, managing data integration, and supporting complex data processing tasks. Collaborating closely with the Scrum Team, Product Owner, and other stakeholders, you will ensure that database solutions align with project objectives and support critical decision-making processes in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the data analytics tools and products used to enhance disaster resilience and recovery efforts. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Design, implement, and manage complex database systems that support the project. Ensure the databases are optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability. Ensure they meet the SBA’s operational and IT requirements. 
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning measures to ensure high availability and efficient data processing. Optimize queries and indexing strategies to enhance database performance. 
  • Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard sensitive data. Ensure database systems comply with relevant regulations and best practices for data protection and privacy. 
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability. Conduct regular backups, test recovery processes, and respond to data loss incidents. 
  • Support data integration efforts by managing ETL processes and ensuring smooth data flow between systems. Collaborate with data engineers to facilitate the ingestion and processing of data. 
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot database issues. Work closely with IT teams, data scientists, and other stakeholders to resolve database-related problems and ensure smooth operation. 
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and changes. Generate reports on database performance, usage, and other metrics as needed. 
  • Work closely with the Scrum Team, Product Owner, and other project stakeholders to ensure that database solutions align with project requirements and objectives. Participate in project meetings and provide input on database-related aspects. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration, with a strong focus on complex database systems and data management. 
  • Proven experience in database design, performance tuning, security, backup and security management. 
  • Experience with database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. 

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in database architecture, design, and performance optimization. 
  • Strong knowledge of data security best practices and regulatory requirements. 
  • Proficient in database scripting and programming languages (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL). 
  • Strong knowledge of database design, data modeling, and ETL processes. 
  • Experience with data integration tools and technologies. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work with cross functional teams. 
  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or similar are highly desirable. 
  • Experience working on public sector or disaster management projects is a plus. 
  • Experience with cloud-based databases and services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).  
  • Experience and familiarity with SBA IT systems and infrastructure is a strong plus.
