Reporting To: Chief of Staff

About Tilt Collective

Tilt Collective (formerly PlantWorks) is a groundbreaking initiative committed to accelerating the global transition to a more nutritious, sustainable, and plant-rich food system. Our mission is to set the world on a path towards a more secure, healthy, and sustainable food system that is both nature- and climate-positive, achieved through a significant shift to plant-rich diets.

Supported by a significant initial commitment, Tilt Collective aims to mobilize a global movement, collaborating with partners to fund impactful projects and strategic research across six target regions. As a member of our team, you'll be instrumental in shaping our strategy and expanding our reach, contributing to meaningful change in the global food system.

Position Overview

As the Grants Director, you will lead the development and execution of Tilt Collective's grant-making strategy, fostering relationships with donors, stakeholders, and grantees to maximize impact. Your work will be central to ensuring that our resources are effectively allocated to projects that align with our mission and demonstrate the potential for scalable, transformative impact.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the Development and Implementation of Grants Strategy: Craft a comprehensive grants strategy that aligns with Tilt Collective's mission, guiding the identification and cultivation of prospective donors including philanthropies, foundations, governments, and corporate partners.
  • Oversee the Grant-Making Process: Manage all stages of the grant process, from proposal development and grantee selection to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, ensuring compliance and impact.
  • Collaborate with Program Teams: Work closely with program teams to understand funding needs, develop targeted grant-making approaches, and ensure that resources are allocated effectively.
  • Build and Maintain Relationships: Engage with current and potential grantees, offering guidance throughout the grant cycle to build strong, impactful partnerships.
  • Monitor Impact: Evaluate grantee performance through site visits and impact assessments, providing strategic guidance on resource allocation based on outcomes.
  • Mentor and Develop Staff: Manage and develop a Grants Manager, building the capacity of the team to support the organization's grant-making operations.

You will bring:

  • Experience and Expertise: 7+ years of successful experience in grant-making, fundraising, or philanthropy, with a proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, coupled with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
  • Strategic Vision: A strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the grant management process, project management, and budget oversight.
  • Commitment to Impact: A demonstrated commitment to social impact, with experience in sustainable development, food security, or environmental conservation being highly desirable.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt strategies to meet evolving needs.

Location and Travel:

  • This is a remote role, ideally located within 2 hours of the East Coast USA time zone. Occasional travel will be required to meet with stakeholders, support grantee activities, and attend key events.
