As the Associate Manager, Chemist, you will act as the insecticide technology formulator and will be responsible for the development of new insecticide formulations designed with superior consumer benefits. Responsibilities include the implementation of a technology roadmap, implementation of advanced laboratory capabilities, new formulation development, development of intellectual property, and external partner engagement. This role will have a focus on safer efficacy formulas, including new delivery systems, and will have opportunity to reach across all insecticide battlegrounds. It will report to the safer efficacy battleground manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive implementation of science technology roadmap for advancements in formulation and delivery system
Investigate and evaluate different non-traditional actives
Investigate and evaluate new delivery systems (example membranes, gels, etc)
Drive development of lab methods to evaluate the performance of our products leading to compelling consumer claims
Engage with governmental, academic and trade associations to stay on top of latest regulatory and technical advancements for insecticide products
Review trade publications and other industry news sources for raw material information, regulatory updates, and educational opportunities
Investigate new raw materials and technologies through laboratory experimentation, record findings, and suggest applications
Influence and collaborate effectively with co-workers and external partners to advance SC Johnson’s Insecticide Science capabilities
Develop and deliver formulations and technologies to be applied to global insecticide portfolio.
Identify and apply leading technologies in adjacent industries – requires maintaining state of the art formulation research knowledge
Act as technical lead for select safer efficacy formulation technology projects, ensuring appropriate rigor, assessing technical risk, and managing key development milestones and project budgets meeting the end-to-end technical project deliverables.
Develop quality and specification processes for performance aspects of safer efficacy and insecticides
Integrate entomology studies into formulation to develop effective products
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Engineering or related science and 5 years of relevant work experience OR Advanced Degree and at least 3 years of relevant work experience
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Advanced degree in Chemistry or Engineering
Five years of formulation experience
Demonstrated track record of developing and commercializing consumer-preferred solutions.
Understanding of the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of common skin care formulation ingredients
Scientific aptitude & curiosity, and the ability to solve technical problems related to formulation
Provide innovative ideas and knowledge with a high degree of integrity, speed, and a results-oriented approach
Knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various formulation and delivery system technologies related to products (e.g., aerosol and trigger formulation, emulsion chemistry, gel formulation, membrane technology, surfactants, solvents, builders)
Experience in insecticide industry, and familiarity with pest control products
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely to multiple levels within the company
Experience with formulating green and sustainable chemistries
Background in insecticide efficacy testing across flying and crawling insects
