Workplace ESL/Japanese Lecturer

The Intercultural English Language Programs (IELP) invites prospective Lecturers, who are bilingual in English and Japanese, to apply and join our team.
The Lecturer in this position will provide English as a Second Language (ESL) training to adult corporate learners from Japan through online learning platforms. Instruction will be done in a mix of both English and Japanese. The language training will be in the form of online one-on-one and small group meetings via Zoom or similar technology, and asynchronous content in Canvas. Teaching hours are typically in the afternoons and evenings, between 1 pm and 9 pm.
The Lecturer will also work as a team to develop content and curriculum, and provide Japanese translations to the English content.
Primary Duties:
● Serve as instructor for learners in one-on-one or small group settings via Zoom or similar technology
● Work as a team to develop, maintain, and improve the program’s online curriculum for learners to engage with
● Attend program meetings and collaborate with other teaching and admin team members
● Track student achievement and progress, and submit reports to the Director
● Assist with Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) administration at client’s site (in-state travel)
● Work on additional projects as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Multilingual Language Education or closely related field
- Highly proficient in both English and Japanese, and can use both languages to teach English for Occupational Purposes
- Experience teaching adult ESL/EFL learners
- Experience with curriculum development for English language learners
- Strong knowledge of pedagogical grammar and mechanics of English
- Proficient with using learning technologies for teaching
- Familiarity with online course management systems, preferably Canvas
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the TOEIC
- Evidence of current professional activities in the field of TESOL
- Instructional design experience
- Experience teaching in a corporate/professional setting
- Online teaching experience strongly preferred
Additional Information:
Target salary range: $51,000 - $54,000 annually.
This is a term appointment with an expected end date of 3/31/2026. There is the potential for contract renewal.
