THE OPPORTUNITY

Based in our office in Victoria, British Columbia, and reporting to the Director of Analytics & Reporting, the Associate/Senior Associate will be part of a small team supporting Analytics & Reporting for the Public Markets department. The Associate/Senior Associate will be primarily responsible for providing strategic insights by developing and implementing interactive, on-demand analytical tools and solutions for a variety of stakeholders within Public Markets, including portfolio managers, traders, and senior leadership. This position provides the candidate with an excellent opportunity to combine their business knowledge with technological acumen and enable strategic decisions within Public Markets. The successful candidate will use the existing Analytics & Reporting Infrastructure to deploy new models.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Markets group manages a portfolio of fixed income, equity, private debt and absolute return investments representing approximately $120 billion utilizing both index and active management strategiesThe Group invests in Canada, the U.S. and internationally, in both the developed and emerging marketsAssets are managed using both internal management and external managersThe Group uses a diverse mix of financial instruments including bonds, equities, and derivativesIn addition, the Group is a leader in Responsible Investing actively integrating environmental, social and governance factors into our investment analysis and decision-making.

Public Markets Operations (“PM Ops”), a team within Public Markets, provides operational foundation for departments’ existing strategies while being a strategic partner to the various investment teams in the exploration of new value-add strategies for our clients. The team is the key interface with internal and external business partners and stakeholders in execution of Public Markets’ business.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Master's degree in business, statistics, mathematics, or other related disciplines

  • At least 5 years of experience in Capital Markets

  • Professional designation such as CFA/CAIA is an asset

  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL code

  • Proficient in Python for data modeling, engineering, and science

  • Demonstrated ability with data visualization creation tools, such as Tableau

  • Proven experience in data transformation and data manipulation

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt messaging according to the audience

  • Proven ability to simplify complex business problems

  • Proactive attitude, interest in investment management, dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and eagerness to learn and progress

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Design, develop, enhance, and optimize models to drive oversight of diverse public markets strategies

  • Use Python, SQL, and Tableau to create streamlined analytics for Equities, Fixed Income, and Derivatives strategies

  • Collaborate with Portfolio Managers and Traders to create essential reports tailored to their specific requirements

  • Responsible for producing comprehensive Public Markets metrics at the department level, to aid strategic decision-making

  • Perform other responsibilities as delegated by the Director, Analytics & Reporting

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for the Associate role is CAD $100,000 to $120,000, and for the Senior Associate role, it is CAD $120,000 to $140,000. 

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
