Job description

Sr. Director Analyst, PLM Manufacturing

About the role:

Have you seen the future? Do you look around and see what is happening and have a pretty good idea about how all these tendrils will come together, leading to a different outcome in the manufacturing sector than perhaps the general wisdom?

We are looking for a candidate who understands the history and present of manufacturing, particularly how technology and business collide. A strong knowledge of the major technology trends and how they are being implemented is important. MUST have manufacturing experience using PLM in process and/or discrete industry. We need someone who feels comfortable talking to manufacturing C-suite executives and advising technology companies on how to approach the market. Knowledge of the broader industry landscape, including how technology, regulation, and society are changing and affecting it is required. People who are creative and curious and have a desire to learn how things work are more interesting for this role than people who are content to rest on a mountain of knowledge. People who have pulled together and published reports, white papers, and articles or have presented on stage are desirable.

What you will do:

  • Create innovative, thought-provoking content.

  • Develop new research and ideas through thought leadership and offer compelling, actionable approaches to client's needs and requests that accelerate and improves the client's ability to act.

  • Develop in-depth analysis to identify the root cause of a client’s barriers or overall needs and reframe thinking to drive the strategy forward.

  • Demonstrate thought leadership in establishing research positions across a team of analysts.

  • Bring provocative, independent insights to Gartner content leaders and support the evolution of research agendas

  • Research, analyze, and predict market trends and shifts to provide clients and vendors with actionable insights.

  • Provide clients and prospects with actionable advice aligned to their designated content area via virtual or face-to-face interactions.

  • Create and deliver high value presentation materials on and off stage for Gartner events, industry and professional association conferences, and client briefings.

  • Support Research and Sales: Provide sales support, serving as the voice of the market to help research teams create content and drive engagement with clients to make progress against their critical priorities to grow their business.

  • Provide high quality and timely research content peer review.

  • Build credibility as an industry expert to represent Gartner’s research, methodology, and strategy.

  • Actively participate in innovation, ideation, and research discussions and collaborate effectively with peers in the research community.

  • Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and Research & Advisory provide excellent service delivery.

  • Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members.

  • Be client-centric while actively seeking to help clients engage regularly and often with Gartner research and interactions.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior experience working with PLM and PLM adjacent topics like design and engineering, simulation, and integration experience with ERP/MES in the manufacturing industry, with a focus on process and/or discrete industry, directly for manufacturers or via consulting/system integrators, preferable doing turnkey projects

  • Experience with BOM management and how different types of BOMs interplay from upstream engineering to downstream manufacturing and beyond such as the service lifecycle of products

  • Must know and have worked on with at least two PLM systems or a combination of systems between PLM and other systems such as CRM, ERP, MES and product configurators

  • Subject matter expertise in PLM-related topics, such as specifications management, recipe and formula management, labeling and artwork, product portfolio management, packaging and regulatory compliance standards and/or product circularity is a plus

  • Process and functional experience across the product development and manufacturing value chain

  • Additional bonuses: IT/OT Integration, Industrial IoT, Smart Manufacturing, Middleware, Configuration Lifecycle Management, MBSE

  • Strong organizational skills: ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables.

  • Demonstrated research and writing ability.

  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and presentation skills, able to communicate complex concepts concisely to clients and internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data.

  • Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative member of the team supporting the workflow of others, in a global team environment.

  • Ability to represent Gartner's research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels.

  • 5-10% willingness and ability to travel to team/client events
