Position Summary

We're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and managing risk, pricing, and sales of commercial property and liability insurance. You will also handle renewal processes and oversee the ongoing management of your portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and review a portfolio of business by evaluating submissions and making timely decisions in line with established guidelines.
  • Maintain organized and comprehensive electronic underwriting files.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with assigned brokers by responding promptly to inquiries and clearly communicating underwriting decisions.
  • Review and assess upcoming renewals efficiently, ensuring accurate and timely issuance of nonrenewal notices and renewal quotes.
  • Supervise and support Underwriting Assistant(s) effectively.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Property & Casualty (P&C) license preferred; required for California residents.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in commercial property/casualty insurance, with a strong understanding of rating, pricing, and underwriting principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Adobe, and experience with database rating systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Strong negotiation and sales abilities, with a knack for delivering challenging messages when needed.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and dedicated with a strong work ethic.
