Role description:

Arcadis’ Industrial Water Treatment and Optimization (IWTO) team is looking for a mid-level Industrial Water Biological Process Engineer to support our growing number of industrial water and wastewater related design projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Function as the process engineer on industrial water/wastewater projects,
  • Using processes such as physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed-film processes, membrane bioreactors (MBR), side stream treatment, tertiary filtration, and disinfection,
  • Receive technical guidance from a senior process engineer,
  • Delegate engineering or scientific calculations/ drawings to junior staff, and
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions.

Remote work is allowed although clients and projects are predominantly based in the Southeast US; so preferred locations include Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in developing and preparing process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables for a variety of industrial water projects,
  • Field work will be required, including but not limited to, surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, bench- and pilot‑scale treatability testing, etc.
  • Assist with system commissioning and start-up, including training plant staff.
  • Prepare and make presentations to clients and for professional meetings.
  • Manage projects as necessary to meet both client and Arcadis’ expectations.
  • Supporting business development including proposal preparation and meeting with clients.
  • Travel as needed for meetings, site visits, etc. (up to 25%).

Key Skill and Attributes:

  • Possess a good understanding of different types of industrial wastewater treatment systems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint proficient.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Consulting engineering firm experience is a plus.
  • Effective collaboration and coordination within a multi-disciplinary project environment.
  • Provide mentorship to early career engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related field of study with focus on biological wastewater treatment.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively increasing responsibility in the industrial water including familiarity with the following: biological wastewater treatment, facility master planning, data analysis, and treatability testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience.
  • Professional engineer registration in one or more states.
