Description

Join a leading staffing agency in the job placement industry as we seek to hire Coding Specialist candidates for a Health Information Management opportunity. This role focuses on accurately assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic and procedure codes for clinical encounters, ensuring compliance with regulatory and CMS Official Guidelines for coding and reporting to secure accurate reimbursement.

This position is fully remote for candidates residing outside of CA, NY, NJ, CO, OR, and HI.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intermediate clinical inpatient support through the Health Information Management department.
  • Complete coding assignments for inpatient admissions from various discharge departments such as Postpartum, Newborn, Cardiac ICU, and more.
  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes by translating diagnostic statements, physician orders, and other documentation.
  • Identify appropriate charges based on documentation and coding guidelines.
  • Work with HIM staff to clarify documentation when necessary.
  • Adhere to Health Information Management (HIM) Coding policies and apply American Hospital Association (AHA) Official Coding Guidelines.
  • Maintain coding certification and stay updated on current ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives as assigned.

Skills And Certifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience is required.
  • Experience in acute care facility and/or Trauma Level II coding preferred.
  • AAPC, AHIMA, or Certified Coding credential (excluding apprenticeship classification) is required.
