Senior Information Security Engineer

General Description: The Senior Information Security Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining the computer and network security infrastructure. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s technology and information needs to design and test security structures. The position also involves performing technical assessments of risks, threats, and vulnerabilities related to both new and existing information systems and processes within the organization and its external vendor connections.

Tasks, Duties, Functions

  • Review and investigate suspicious activities identified in IDS/IPS, web application firewalls, vulnerability scans, and other data sources. Provide recommendations to IT management and ensure their effective implementation.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify risks, reporting findings to management. Lead technology staff in identifying and remediating system vulnerabilities.
  • Offer consultative support as a security subject matter expert on projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in the development of business systems designs, ensuring compliance with information security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT to establish and manage procedures for detecting and preventing system intrusions, and maintain a functional anti-virus/malware/DLP policy.
  • Monitor, measure, test, and report on the effectiveness and efficiency of information security controls and compliance with policies.
  • Implement, administer, and maintain IDS/IPS, URL filters, email gateways, certificate issuance and control, network management, identity access control, and other security infrastructure.
  • Regularly review IDS/IPS/HIDS/SIEM rules, wireless rogue access point detection configurations, and practices to ensure optimal security.
  • Review firewall, VPN, and web content filtering configurations and rules to ensure efficiency and adherence to security standards.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, providing support and addressing audit recommendations.
  • Drive the development of network systems architecture, design, and ongoing review of system configurations.
  • Keep management updated on unresolved issues in accordance with established escalation procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of business area needs, incorporating these into technical solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to compliance, including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws.
  • Perform other job-related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Security, Information Assurance, or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in the management, configuration, administration, installation, and evaluation of network (Cisco preferred) or operating systems software (Microsoft, Linux preferred), hardware, and applications.
  • At least 4 years of experience in organizational information security, information assurance, or providing security consulting services.
  • Expertise in Firewalls and Intrusion Detection/Prevention systems.
  • Expertise in operating systems security principles.
  • Expertise in networking security principles.
  • Strong knowledge of information security principles, objectives, and security system standards, including network topology threats, vulnerabilities, segmentation, filtering, tunneling, authentication, access control, cryptography, and system/network hardening.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, VoIP, and mobile devices.
  • Strong knowledge of business, network systems, hardware concepts, and applications, including DNS, LDAP, virtualization, database design/hardening, email/secure messaging, Data Loss Prevention, and endpoint protection.
  • Strong sense of ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Ability to articulate methodologies and concepts and communicate effectively to provide technical guidance and expertise to management and staff.
