Senior Research Scientist

About us:

BioClavis Ltd is a Glasgow-based spin-out of US-based BioSpyder Technologies. Leveraging the proprietary TempO-Seq® transcriptomic/genomic platform technology, BioClavis is capable of efficiently analyzing large cohorts with customizable biomarker gene expression panels and DNA or RNA mutations quickly and inexpensively, from bulk samples of cells, tissues, and organisms, as well as from single cells. TempO-Seq has critical usability features and controls and does not require specialized instrumentation, making it ideal for expansion into the clinic. These strengths, in concert with centralized patient samples, clinical research partners, and economic decision-making, allow accelerated content discovery, product development and adoption of a new generation of cost-disruptive precision medicine testing worldwide. We are now seeking a talented and motivated Senior Research Scientist to join our growing BioClavis team.

Job Description:

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic scientist to join us whilst we build and develop our diagnostics platforms. Trained at a senior level and with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, the successful candidate will be required to work independently while exploiting close collaboration with the scientific management team of BioSpyder located in the US. Training on the TempO-Seq platform will be provided upon starting either at the BioClavis (Glasgow, UK) or BioSpyder (Carlsbad, CA, USA) labs.

BioClavis is committed to using the TempO-Seq assay to develop panels targeting several disease-specific biomarkers and measuring their expression, genetic variability and isoform prevalence.

Main duties and responsibilities:

· Demonstrates capability to independently work across the BioSpyder and BioClavis teams to nurture and develop collaborator relationships.

· Being able to independently design experiments and perform them within timelines.

· Being able to QC and analyze TempO-Seq data.

· Updating management and key stakeholders.

· Demonstrates capability to progress projects.

· Demonstrates accountability for the time and quality of agreed deliverables for projects.

· Demonstrates capability to troubleshoot data to identify root causes of problems and help others.

· Ensure maintenance of accurate experimental laboratory records in adherence with industry standards and protect the IP of the Company

· Ability to interpret non-standard QC data/metrics and or track and evaluate data and metrics over time with consideration to other contributing factors (assay type, equipment used, etc)

· Comply with the health and safety standards of BioClavis, and lead through example in ensuring the safe conduct of laboratory science.

Abilities and Qualifications that will make you an ideal candidate:

Essential:

· PhD in Molecular Biology or a similar field and at least 5 years experience in a . Candidates without a PhD certification but with at least 10 years experience in a Research environment will also be considered.

· Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, especially handling RNA and preparing sequencing libraries.

· Strong communicator with the ability to maintain open communication with co-workers and managers.

· Strong bench skills and experience.

· R&D experience either within an academic environment or (preferably) companies.

· Previous bench work and analysis experience in a molecular biology laboratory.

· Excellent attention to detail.

· Computer literate, familiarity with the MS Office package. Excellent Excel skills

· Ability to work and think methodically.

· Attention to detail in all work, ability to maintain accurate records.

· Team player with a pro-active attitude

· Demonstrated independence proposing, designing and carrying out projects.

Desirable:

· Experience with FFPE processing protocols.

· Experience in working with cancer tissues and/or cancer transcriptomics

· Experience in prostate cancer biology

· Experience in bladder cancer biology

· Experience in project management
