Your missions

Who we are

A piece of the moon,  a complete dinosaur skeleton,  the Pope's hat, the world's smallest book - at Catawiki, we come across exceptional objects such as these every day.

Catawiki is the leading online marketplace to buy and sell special objects. We offer over 75,000 special objects in auction every week — each reviewed and selected by one of Catawiki’s hundreds of in-house experts specialised in Art, Design, Jewellery, Fashion, Classic Cars, Collectables and many more.

We've sold 10 million unique items to date and it’s our mission to become the world’s most popular auction destination for special objects.

We’re an innovative, pioneering and fast-growing scale-up. If you think you can make a difference to our team, go ahead and apply.

About the role

The People Operations Team is the building block of our People function, with strong, robust and efficient operations we grow our partnerships with the business and create a meaningful employee experience. To support our future growth we are looking for an (International) Payroll Specialist to strengthen our People Operations Team.

As (International) Payroll Specialist you are end to end responsible for the payroll process in all countries where our Catawikians are based. This includes collecting and providing payroll data to the local payroll providers and reviewing the completed payroll reports. Currently our Catawikians are based in 8 European countries, a few countries outside Europe and we are expanding further on a global level.

What you’ll do
  • On a monthly basis, you are responsible for collecting all payroll data from internal departments, organizing and submitting to the local payroll provider in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review monthly payroll output reports to ensure (variable) data is processed correctly.
  • Be the first point of contact and strong sparring partner for our local payroll providers around payroll processes and other payroll related communications.
  • Be the go-to person for all payroll related questions for our employees.
  • Keep track of and ensure compliance regarding all local legislations.
  • Carry out 30% ruling checks.
  • Work together with external parties (eg. local lawyers, tax advisors) in case you need any advice on the practice of local labour law.
  • Prepare and align with the Finance team on payroll reporting.
  • Work together with the People Operations Team to implement automation, innovation and any continuous improvements around the payroll processing and reporting.
  • Move in Sync with our Finance & Legal team, HR Business Partners and Recruitment to optimise employee processes and experience.

All in all there is lots of room for you to learn, explore, add value and have an impact on the way we payroll all our Catawikians!

What you’ll bring

You have work experience in an HR department of a commercial and international oriented organisation and:

  • 3-5 years experience in (international) payroll for the Netherlands and further EU countries.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate (compliance) risks and act accordingly.
  • Ability to oversee and structure complex processes and identify opportunities for improvements/simplifications.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment, as well as independently while adhering to processes and procedures.
  • Proactive, flexible, eager to learn and service oriented.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, accurate and a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and can prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written and Dutch is a big plus.

Our offices and way of working

We have sensational offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon. Most of our employees are within commutable distance of one of our office locations and enjoy a hybrid work model. This means we expect you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with each other. The exception is of course, if the job description specifically states that the role is 100% remote, as some experts and sales positions are.
