Role Summary:

The role of a Senior Legal Counsel is to manage legal risk appropriately for the task at hand, advising on the full range of commercial legal support to the GTT group across Europe with a focus on the jurisdictions in which the employee is qualified and with awareness of the issues that arise in cross border transactions.

The main focus of the role is to support commercial transactions, negotiate with customers and ensure GTT processes are properly applied.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft / amend / advise on and negotiate the full range of commercial agreements from telecommunication services to cloud services and software licences in a fast-paced business environment
  • Provide legal advice/drafting that is accurate, understandable to and focused on the issues of the business
  • Identify, analyze, & mitigate contractual risk
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders such as sales, finance, pricing and product to ensure compliance with policies and make them aware of unfavourable terms and conditions
  • Work proactively and closely with your colleagues within and outside of the legal department including liaising with external counsel
  • Advise on and manage the full range of issues addressed to a small in-house team including data protection, compliance, company law, employment law, litigation/dispute resolution, regulatory affairs, property matters, insolvency, licensing, IPR etc.
  • Subject to approval, instruct external counsel in cost effective manner and provide and procure advice on local and European legislation
  • Deal with legal requests in a timely and efficient manner
  • Act ethically and responsibly at all times and with all dealings with other staff and with third parties
  • Ad hoc duties as required

Required Experience/Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic qualifications (degree)
  • Qualified lawyer in a European jurisdiction
  • Must have a good understanding of commercial law and its practical applications in a business environment 5-10 years post qualification experience is indicative of the requirement
  • Practical and quick minded approach, allowing to deliver pragmatic and business focuses solutions
  • Hands on experience of contract preparation, review and negotiation
  • Proven track record of effectively managing & influencing internal & external stakeholders
  • Experience using cloud-based contract management tools
  • Telecoms/ IT experience is an advantage
  • IT/PC literacy essential
  • Fully fluent, both written and verbal, in English and ideally other languages
  • This fluency must include the ability to draft, negotiate and amend complex legal documents
  • Prior in-house experience is preferred
