About the Role

The Senior Quality Specialist for Fruits and Vegetables is responsible for ensuring that all produce meets the company’s rigorous quality standards from sourcing to the customer. This role involves close collaboration with suppliers, and internal teams to monitor and improve the quality of fruits and vegetables, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and customer expectations

 

What you’ll do

Quality Assurance and Control

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality standards and procedures for the inspection and testing of fruits and vegetables
  • Conduct regular quality checks at various stages of the supply chain, including farms, warehouses, and distribution centers
  • Assess and analyze quality data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks.

Supplier and Grower Management

  • Collaborate with suppliers and growers to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards and adhere to industry best practices
  • Conduct regular audits of suppliers, providing feedback and guidance on quality improvement
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to foster continuous improvement and innovation

Compliance and Certification

  • Ensure all products comply with food safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and standards and communicate these to relevant stakeholders

Team Leadership and Training

  • Lead and mentor a team of quality specialists, providing training and development opportunities
  • Conduct training sessions for internal teams and suppliers on quality standards, food safety, and best practices
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the organization

Problem Resolution:

  • Investigate and resolve quality issues and customer complaints related to fruits and vegetables
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Document and report on quality incidents, trends, and corrective actions

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead initiatives to improve the quality and shelf-life of fruits and vegetables through innovative techniques and technologies
  • Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain teams to test and implement new products and processes
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of the supply chain

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in quality assurance within the produce or food industry, with a focus on fruits and vegetables
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, quality standards, and certification processes
  • Experience in supplier management and auditing
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
