POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Vice President (VP) of TRISTAR’s Risk Control Division, Aspen Risk Management Group (Aspen), plays a pivotal role in leading and overseeing operations at Aspen.  This position is accountable for ongoing comprehensive risk and safety services, encompassing workplace safety, risk control, and ergonomics. The VP is instrumental in solidifying and expanding the team by identifying and onboarding new staff and independent consultants.  They will foster existing staff and client relationships to optimize revenue opportunities and work to create innovative service offerings.

 

As a member of the executive leadership team and in consultation with the President of TRISTAR, they are responsible for crafting and executing Aspen's operational strategies, mission, and long-term vision. This includes spearheading business development initiatives to drive sales growth and expand market share. The role demands strong financial acumen, overseeing budget planning, profit optimization, and resource allocation to ensure the division's fiscal health and sustainable growth.

 

The VP must possess a deep understanding of Aspen's unique industry niche, which serves a diverse clientele that includes insurance carriers, captives, brokers, MGAs, direct clients (commercial and governmental), and other stakeholders. By developing tailored risk control solutions and collaborating closely with these entities, the VP will enhance Aspen's service offerings and strengthen client relationships. This multifaceted approach enables Aspen to address the distinct needs of each segment, driving innovation and identifying cross-selling opportunities that ensure the company remains competitive within the risk management and safety industry.

 

Furthermore, the position requires the development and implementation of internal systems to efficiently manage consultants and clients while upholding an unwavering commitment to service excellence. The VP must balance strategic financial management with the pursuit of new business opportunities, ensuring Aspen remains at the forefront of the risk management industry.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Leadership and Vision:
    • Defines Aspen's overall objectives and strategic direction.
    • Fosters a culture of integrity, honesty, and empathy, ensuring team members feel valued and engaged, enhancing overall well-being, motivation, and collaboration.
    • Nurtures trust and open dialogue within the organization, facilitating transparent decision-making.
    • Inspires and energizes the team to uphold Aspen's primary purpose: saving lives, preventing injuries and illnesses, and protecting our clients from harm.

  • Staff Management:
    • Manages all staff, including overseeing hiring, performance evaluations, training and development, recruitment, and other relevant activities.
    • Manages independent contractors, overseeing their onboarding, professional development, task assignments, and seamless integration into the organization.
  • Client-Centric Services:
    • Tailors’ safety services for a diverse clientele, including insurance carriers, captives, brokers, MGAs, direct clients, and other stakeholders.
    • Cultivates direct relationships with senior-level representatives of major clients, ensuring the alignment of services with client expectations.
  • Industry Engagement:
    • Represents Aspen at conferences and workshops, addressing the general public and clients.
    • Expertly analyzes and addresses complex industry and business challenges, providing efficient solutions within budgetary constraints.
    • Ensures rigorous oversight of quality control measures to maintain exceptional service standards.
  • Business Development:
    • Drives revenue opportunities by developing services, crafting, and delivering proposals, and responding to RFPs.  Oversees novel projects and develops pricing strategies.
    • Stays well-informed about competitors, consistently monitoring industry trends and the competitive landscape.
    • Oversees the creation of marketing collateral and maintains Aspen's competitive edge by researching and endorsing products, services, protocols, and standards to enhance the company's offerings.
  • Financial Leadership:
    • Develops and implements financial strategies aligned with Aspen and TRISTAR’s overall business objectives.
    • Oversees the division's financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability, and cost management.
    • Analyzes financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks, using insights to inform strategic decision-making.
    • Collaborates with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
    • Presents financial and sales reports to executive leadership and the board of directors, as requested.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Working with TRISTAR, leads the annual budgeting process for the division, setting realistic yet ambitious financial targets.
    • Allocates resources effectively to optimize performance and achieve strategic goals.
    • Monitors budget variances and implements corrective actions when necessary.
    • Identifies and pursues cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality or team morale.
    • Ensures compliance with financial policies and procedures, maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Set priorities and direct upgrade projects, improvements, and enhancements in alignment with Aspen's strategic goals.
    • Develop and implement policies, practices, and procedures to optimize Aspen's operations.
    • Implements systems for continuous improvement of risk management processes.
    • Encourages innovation and creative problem-solving within the team.
  • Liaison Responsibilities:
    • Serves as the primary connection between administrative operations, consultant management, and client service matters.
    • Acts as TRISTAR's chief safety manager, overseeing the development and implementation of company-wide safety and regulatory policies.
    • Provides high-level strategic guidance on safety matters to TRISTAR's executive team.  Provides similar to TRISTAR clients.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with regulatory bodies and industry associations to stay informed about evolving safety standards and best practices.
    • Leads the creation and updating of TRISTAR's safety manuals and training programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Serves as the company's spokesperson on safety-related issues, representing TRISTAR at industry conferences and client meetings.
    • Collaborates with the marketing team to highlight TRISTAR's safety expertise and initiatives in promotional materials and client communications, including blogs, postings, and articles.
    • Participates in cross-functional projects that impact overall company strategy.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Acts as a senior-level Risk and Safety Consultant when necessary, supporting clients in challenging, high-level scenarios.
    • Demonstrates mastery of advanced safety and risk leadership concepts, staying current with emerging trends and best practices in the field.
    • Possesses high-level consulting skills, particularly in developing and implementing comprehensive safety and risk improvement strategies for complex situations.
    • Exhibits deep knowledge of workplace safety regulations, liability issues, and industry-specific risk factors across various sectors.
    • Provides thought leadership in risk assessment methodologies, safety culture development, and innovative risk mitigation techniques.
    • Capable of conducting sophisticated risk analyses and developing tailored solutions for high-profile clients with complex risk profiles.
    • Mentors and guides staff, elevating the overall technical proficiency of the team and establishing themselves as respected subject matter experts within the organization.
    • Contributes to the field through publications, speaking engagements, or participation in industry standard-setting bodies, further solidifying Aspen's reputation as a leader in workplace safety and risk management.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Leadership role with demonstrated success in managing people and service offerings.
  • 10+ years in a safety or risk management consulting services setting, working with consultants and clients across multiple industries and client types.
  • Prior high-level safety and risk management experience, preferably with insurance carriers, brokers, and companies.
  • 5+ years of workers’ compensation and/or commercial insurance experience.
  • Background in Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and other safety-related regulations desirable.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Possess very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to listen, analyze, and interpret problems and create consulting solutions
