Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBSTC) is looking for enthusiastic, relationship-driven, and passionate professionals to join our team! In this role, you will provide essential support and guidance to one-to-one mentoring relationships between adult mentors (Bigs) and youth mentees (Littles), promoting positive youth development and nurturing meaningful relationship growth. You will play a key role in ensuring that matches are well-supported, and that programming is thoughtfully planned and aligned with agency goals and objectives. This role supports elementary, middle, and high school youth at various schools and corporate sites across the Twin Cities. 


We are seeking individuals who excel in documentation, organization, time management, interpersonal skills, and relationship-building.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Hybrid - mix of office, home, and at school and corporate sites across the Twin Cities

Hiring Salary Range: $22.00 - $24.00/hour Starting rate will depend on your skills and demonstrated readiness for the role.

Hours/Day: 10-20 hours per week

Essential Job Functions:


Quality Support for One-to-One Mentoring Relationships

  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to youth and volunteers meeting at various sites across the Twin Cities, utilizing in-person, phone, and email communication.
  • Continuously evaluate the quality of match relationships, prioritizing child safety, relationship development, positive youth development, and participant satisfaction
  • Implement strategic interventions to address and resolve conflicts or barriers as they arise.
  • Document match conversations, coaching feedback, and professional assessments of relationship quality and safety
  • Maintain timely and effective correspondence with participants

Programmatic Support

  • Interview and assess youth for eligibility in the program:
  • Maintain a high proficiency in child safety and risk management, including mandated reporting
  • Write detailed assessments based on youth interviews, including objective observations, match recommendations, and identifying additional resources needed
  • Complete and maintain all necessary database entries according to agency standards, ensuring confidentiality
  • Administer participant surveys to assess relationships, youth outcomes, and to meet grant requirements
  • Identify engaging and simple activities for matches that align with program goals and objectives  
  • Conduct program orientation sessions for new participants at various sites
  • Monitor and track program data, including attendance, progress, and outcomes. Communicate participant needs, concerns, and progress to the supervisor  
  • Work with the Program Facilitator to co-facilitate and ensure a high-quality experience during facilitated, group mentoring sessions  
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with program sites, adhering to their guidelines to enhance program effectiveness
  • Assist in recruitment efforts to ensure that youth and volunteer enrollment meets year-end goals
  • Gather and analyze participant feedback to provide recommendations for program improvement 
  • Organize and coordinate off-site activities for site-based participants
  • Support additional projects as determined in collaboration with supervisor

  • Handle data from youth, families, mentors, or other constituents with care, ensuring secure and private maintenance. 
  • Stay informed about community needs, resources, and networks. 
  • Collaborate with others to achieve goals outlined in the annual business plan. 
  • Honor and respect the diversity of lived experiences, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the organization.
  • Represent BBBS well in the broader community. 
  • Assist in agency-wide events and initiatives including recruitment, fundraising, event management, and community outreach.

Education and Experience

  • Baccalaureate degree in social services, youth work, education or related field or meet one of the following qualifications:
  • Within 6 months of completing bachelor’s degree
  • AA degree and 2 years relevant work experience
  • High school diploma/GED equivalent and 4 years of relevant work experience
  • At least 1 year of experience coordinating youth programming
  • Previous experience working in a school setting, highly preferred
  • Previous experience working with youth and families


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of youth development, past experience supporting youth development and other related programming and supports strongly preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation required
  • Experience with sensitive information and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Skill in communicating effectively with adults and youth
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to manage multiple concurrent projects while also being highly detail-oriented with an attention to quality  
  • Demonstrated ability to lead accessible and effective communication to diverse audiences with deep commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse youth and families
  • Ability to build and maintain partnerships
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with external constituents
  • Ability to work proactively to solve problems and resolve conflicts with volunteers, youth and parents
  • Ability to work with a team and independently to meet job expectations
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours, to accommodate the schedule of program participants


Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines and filing cabinets. This role must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is the largest and oldest youth mentoring organization in the greater Twin Cities serving Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka and parts of Dakota and Washington counties. Each year, we match up to 2,600 youth (Littles) and their families with caring adults (Bigs) who volunteer as youth mentors.
