Your missions

What is Ranker?

Ranker is the people-powered source of definitive rankings. Voted one of Fast Companies Most Innovative in 2021 (no. 5), our editors have curated tens of thousands of lists about all aspects of pop culture and beyond. Millions of visitors shape these rankings by voting, making Ranker the ultimate source for the best (and worst) of everything. We also turn the over one billion votes cast on Ranker into opinion graphs of consumer sentiment across all of entertainment and more. These are deep psychographics of what fans love at very granular levels across shows, films, celebrities, games, music and countless other categories. Curated by experts. Powered by people.

Manager, SEO Content:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager / Senior Manager of SEO Content to join our team. You will be responsible for designing and executing strategy to scale the reach of Ranker’s content and meet our SEO goals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own all data-focused content creation and ensure the development - and most importantly upkeep - of scalable content. Some of this content is based on data sets and taxonomy
  • Oversee the development and implementation of best practices for content production and distribution, with a focus on SEO
  • You will be very hands on with the content which we classify into three categories 1) new content that needs to be made for search engines 2) existing evergreen content that was made using SEO methods that are out of date and need to be salvaged / renewed 3) content we are making for social that could also be optimized for search
  • There will be a focus on lists/rankings, of which we have many different versions of, and can be seen by clicking around the homepage and doing google searches with ranker.com. We also do videos and infographics at scale.
  • Manage a team of content creators and ensure that they are meeting their objectives and producing high-quality content
  • Ensure that all content meets Ranker's standards for accuracy, quality, and tone, and that it is optimized for search engines
  • Work closely with the editorial team to identify opportunities for content improvement and ensure that our content remains relevant and engaging to our target audience
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices and make recommendations to the executive team on ways to improve our content strategy

Who you are:

  • 7+ years of experience in article-focused content operations, with a strong focus on SEO
  • Strong understanding of scaling content, ideally with at least a gut understanding of how to leverage data sets and taxonomy to that end
  • Source and onboard freelancers, the more you have worked with in the past, the better
  • Strong understanding of content costs, and where it is beneficial to use freelancers to scale faster
  • Holistically understands traffic sources (e.g. search, social & news) and “intent” in 2023
  • Proven experience as a people manager, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of SEO leads and content creators
  • Metrics-driven, with a strong understanding of how to measure the success of content and use data to inform decisions
  • Professional or personal experience or interest in pop culture is preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill

Benefits of working for Ranker:

  • Enhance your leadership skills by joining fast-paced and growing media organization
  • Competitive compensation package
  • Competitive benefits plan, including fully-paid medical
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Holidays)
  • Wellness Resources
  • Independently Owned
  • Remote-Friendly (We welcome remote candidates from California, New York, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, and Washington)

Ranker is the leader in fan-powered rankings on just about everything. Whatever the topic - TV, movies, video games, sports, brands, food - Ranker puts the vote into the hands of millions rather than a few critics to answer the questions we are most passionate about. Over 1 billion votes now power Ranker Insights, a treasure trove of psychographic correlation data that delivers personalized consumer recommendations (“if you like X, you’ll also like Y, Z”) and audience insights to marketers, studios, and platforms seeking a deeper understanding of consumer tastes and preferences. Launched in 2020 and powered by Ranker Insights, Watchworthy is the only statistically relevant, crowd-sourced TV recommendation app available to consumers. Ranker is listed on 2020’s Inc. 5000 and Inc. 5000: California Series; Deloitte’s 2019 Technology Fast 500; Built In LA’s Top 50 Mid-Sized Companies To Work For in 2020 and 2021; and on Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2021 (No. 5). Ranker is headquartered in Los Angeles.
